Explicitly considering the complete disaster and embarrassment that the Department of Veterans’ Affairs has become, I believe it is warranted some consideration for the questioning during the debate. To be honest, Veterans’ affairs and their needs after their service to our country could certainly be treated as a National Security or even National Defense issue. With the importance of this issue being a security issue, the welfare of our veterans should never have been neglected and it will have to be a higher priority for our federal government in terms of proper management including reforming and updating day-to-day procedures, funding, and any additional support to ensure optimal operation of the various clinics and hospitals around the country. Even though the candidates can’t guarantee anything, it is imperative that they acknowledge the problem to the American people and that they have a subsequent plan in the works to mediate it. Having said that, it’s inevitable that the complications with the V.A will be discussed in one of the next two debates. On a smaller note, it would have been smart of Lester Holt to prompt both candidates to respond to questions about the reported sketchy practices by each of the candidate’s charity foundations. These qualities or lack thereof clearly show how the candidate is really feeling versus what words are coming out of his or her mouth. For Mr. Trump, he needs to be mindful that the television camera is on him for the entire duration of the debate and to be aware of the childish facial expressions, inappropriate interjections, and accompanying body language, like drinking water as if he was dehydrated or slouching his shoulders as if he was not confident, that he was projecting to the viewing audience. Interestingly though is that for someone like Donald Trump, a TV celebrity star, who is no stranger to a live TV camera, would behave in such an unacceptable manner. On the other hand, maybe this is Donald Trump showing his true colors. Deprived of a teleprompter allows everyone to see what an unscripted candidate with the disastrous potential of Mr. Trump as Commander-in-Chief. However, for the forthcoming debates, I would advise him to try to remain poised and try to steer the conversations on to topics that he is strong on like trade and immigration. I would also tell him to do a little homework and prepare this time so that he knows what he is talking about.
