Barack Obama Speech About Education

The president of the United States, Barack Obama, held a speech on the 8th of September 2009 at Wakefield High School, in which he addressed the importance of education. The speech had a special message, which was that no students should ever give up because: “you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country” . By delivering such a statement must have created a fire of pride in every American’s patriotic heart. President Obama is hoping for all students to be motivated by the feeling of importance by supporting their country and also the hope of making more students do better and reach success and therefore he tries to invoke the students by saying; “What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future …show more content…
Such line is not common, when you speak to adults, but he must be very clear in his statements in this specific speech because of the lack of concentration that High School students have. He must be very clear about the importance of responsibility. He is certain that every student must fulfilled their responsibility to their parents, teachers, themselves and their country. At first he discuss the responsibility that students have to themselves. A responsibility to explore their talent by going to class and see what fits their interest; “Every single one of you has something you’re good at” . Which after, he states that everyone can contribute; “Every single one of you has something to offer” . Thereafter, he explains the success you can have by exploding your talent. The success of being a great inventor, innovator or politician as Obama tells. He also explains how an education is absolutely important for getting any kind of job, a doctor, teacher or a police officer. Obama continues with explaining how relevant the education is for the future of the students but also the world, as he says; “(…) the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math (…)” , “(…) the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies (…)” and “(…) the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes (…)” . He addresses all of this to enlighten the relevance of the students’ education and he is doing so because of all the students who can’t see the relevance of an education. And also by saying he shows that the present generation of students are those who should truly inherit the
