Barack Obama Barack Obama became president on November 4th, 2008 which was shocking worldwide. He is the first ever black man to run in office. This was shocking to a lot of people because there had been 43 men before him and none of them were African American. This was not only exciting but it also gave the people hope that things would change for the better. When the president got voted into office more people felt like they could relate to him. He didn’t just stand up for black people, he was the voice of all people from different religions, cultures, and ethnicities. Barack Obama is relatable from his upbringing, he is viewed as a humanist for his contributions to society, and he is a role model. Barack Obama is relatable from his upbringing. Barack Hussein Obama Jr. was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His name Barack means “blessed” which was given to him by his father. Barack grew up knowing constant change. He moved to Indonesia when he was a kid with his mom because his parent got a divorce. Because of the divorce his dad moved back to Kenya to work for the government as an economist. Life was difficult for Barack while Indonesia he wasn’t use to that country’s living conditions and wanted his life back in Hawaii. When he was 10 he moved back to Hawaii to finish his education.
