Barack Obama Barack Obama became president on November 4th, 2008 which was shocking worldwide. He is the first ever black man to run in office. This was shocking to a lot of people because there had been 43 men before him and none of them were African American. This was not only exciting but it also gave the people hope that things would change for the better. When the president got voted into office more people felt like they could relate to him. He didn’t just stand up for black people, he was the voice of all people from different religions, cultures, and ethnicities. A humanist is someone who want to better the human population which is what he did. Before his time in office he did a lot of great things. He wanted to figure out what kept the people that lived on the south side of Chicago poor and wanted to change that which is why he worked for the community. He wanted to see the betterment of the people who were living in poverty. While he was in the senate for Illinois he launched, a campaign called “VOTE”. He got more than 100,000 people registered to vote. Not many people cared whether people went out to vote but he knew that having more African American voting would make a difference. Obama helped pass the Earned Income Tax Credit act, which cut taxes from Illinois families. He has great leadership skills and makes it easy for people to work with him. During his time in office he helped people get jobs and health care. He improved Americas relationships with other countries and he let immigrants stay in America.
