I have participated in attending Baptist churches with my mother since before I can remember. Normally, I’m imagining whatever story the pastor is telling in my head. In my experience, they’re very detailed, and I try to play out the story like a television show in my head. Nothing necessarily needs to go in my head in order to attend church, besides the basic function of getting up and physically moving there. For myself personally, I does add a little bit more meaning behind the action for me to consciously think about what’s going on around me and what the pastor is talking about. It does not make it less meaningful for me to think more consciously about church. Attending church without any inner monologue is not strange to me, and it does

My personal narrative essay is about my transfer from Bible Baptist to Savannah Christian and my feelings towards the process of transferring and the first day at Savannah Christian. Overall the transfer was better than I presumed it would be because I sustained a better education than I did at Bible Baptist. The transfer taught me that sometimes change is for the greater good. If I had the ability to go back in time and tell my future self-something about this situation it would be not to be nervous just breathe. Finding out I was going to a new school could be compared to when I found out my first fish had died, heartbreaking.…

My life before my conversion consisted mainly of growing up in a Southern Baptist Church. Throughout my life I have heard the gospel countless times, but never accepted it as absolute truth to follow. Instead, my life until college was characterized by performing a lot of religious activity such as youth groups, church camps, and going to church on Sundays. I was in a tireless attempt to live out a religion that proved I was good enough to be declared righteous before God. It was a restless attempt to be whatever everyone else want me to be.…

Before I stepped into St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, I thought that attending Catholic Mass would not be all that different from the Protestant services I grew up attending. However, I felt out of place as soon as I walked through the front doors. Everything felt foreign to me; from the way the building was set up, to the way people behaved during the service, to the way everyone exited the church. As an outsider, I felt lost and almost lonely as the masses around me moved in unison and I was left trying to follow along as best I could. I did not feel that Mass was welcome and open as the services of the Protestant churches that I am familiar with.…
