Thou’dst have, great Glamis, that which cries, ‘thus thou do’ if thou have it; and that which rather thou dost fear to do, than wishest should be done.” In this soliloquy quote “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be what thou art promised: yet do I fear thy nature” This shows that she doesn’t think Macbeth has the ‘nature’ to do what needs to be done, this also reinforces the idea she thinks he’s a coward. This quote is also very ironic here because when she appeals to the ‘spirits’ she is actually herself going against nature. “That which cries 'Thus thou must do, if thou have it; and that which rather thou dost fear to do than wishest should be undone.'…

Right after a meeting with Banquo, Macbeth commanded the murderers to come into the royal palace at Forres. Then they planned the murder of Banquo and Banquo’s family because the prophecies of the weird sisters stated that Banquo’s sons would overthrow Macbeth and steal his crown. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, during Macbeth’s third speech he mentions that, in regards to the three witches’ prophecies and Banquo, “they hail’d him father to a line of kings. Upon my head they plac’d a fruitless crown, And put a barren scepter in my gripe” (III.i.59-61). This quote occurs before Macbeth’s banquet, after Banquo has just left the palace to ride his horse. The quote is significant because Macbeth now realizes that there is no royal future for him and his lineage, because, since so far everything the witches have prophesied has come true, their prophecy of Banquo’s descendants becoming kings must be true too.…
