Macbeth is a tragedy centered on the titular character, Macbeth, and was written around 1606. In the play, Macbeth and his friend Banquo are returning from a big battle when three witches come and give them each a prophecy. Macbeth’s was that he would become the thane of Cawdor and, eventually, king, and Banquo’s was that his sons would later become king. When Macbeth and Banquo finally reach the king, he tells Macbeth that he will visit their castle and that Malcolm will be his heir. Macbeth then sends a letter home to his wife telling her of the prophecy. Lady Macbeth, however, doesn’t believe that Macbeth has what it takes to kill Duncan.
