Banning Smoking in Public places Secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventive death in the United States. For every eight smokers that are smoking kills they take one non-smoker with them.-Adrienne Herron. Every year there is an estimated of the amount of people who die from the exposure from secondhand smoke or just from smoking in general there are over 443,000 related deaths in the United States. Anyone who smokes most likely will never give it a second thought on how much it affects people within their surroundings. What happens is that the Cilla which is in the lungs and it gets damaged and pretty much destroys the cilia. And the cilia is what protects are lungs from all the dust and dirt in the air that we breathe in. Once that is destroyed then are lungs are just keeping all that pollution and dirt within are lungs. And all that dirt and pollution that is in the lungs is what puts you at risk for lung cancer.
