Peer grading is a system utilized across the nation in various classes. Students are regarded as reliable, trustworthy and credible sources to judge the effort of their classmate. However the opinion of a student does not carry behind it the knowledge or experience of a teacher. Her teacher held it up in front of the class and stated “ I would not wipe my ass with this”. She was horrified, cried in class and for days after. She said she could not even go to school the next day she was too embarrassed. However, not a single student laughed, as this teacher was known for ripping into students in this manner. When the teacher finished reviewing her student’s records, Brenda, a 16-year-old student of hers, saw her and walked in and asked if she can see her records. The teacher refused because the folder record had some sensitive comments about Brenda. An hour later Brenda’s parents came and asked to see Brenda’s records. The current grading system of “A-F” is a more sensible than the newly founded grading system of “pass or fail”. First of all, if a student is barley capable of passing with all D’s, there would be no defined way of telling if that student made good or bad grades with the report card stating “pass”. Secondly, Colleges and Universities might be letting incapable students into their program due to the fact that they are unable to tell if that student succeeded during high school. Basically, the world might have people, that barley passed high school and college, operating on them in the hospital. Most importantly, students would not be better prepared for the real world because they would not have to try as hard during high school.…

At a few schools, some teachers are using a software that sends letters to the parents of their students learned, their weaknesses, and how to improve them. Grade inflation is receiving a higher grade for an undisclosed reason, for something based on the quantity of work compared to the quality of the work. Grade inflation is an exceptional grade that looks good on paper, but slowly over time takes away and hurts the student in the long run. An example of grade inflation is when teachers grade students based on their effort and/or enthusiasm to learn than the mastery of the content. The U.S. Education system has been trending more in favor of grade inflation as society changes. At Beaufort County Community College grade inflation is not challenging the student and leaving them unprepared, unmotivated and content with the quality of their education.…

Over the past decade, a new topic in the education field has been getting a lot of attention in the media. The debates are over whether a student in elementary education should be allowed to continue if they fail a grade level. Many arguments have spawned from this topic with valid points being emitted from each side. Although it may seem as if there are many pros to skipping a grade, in reality, there are far more cons. Students should not be allowed to skip a grade if they haven't successfully completed it because it will hurt their development, strengthen the ideas that they don't have to work hard to succeed, and show them that consequences don't exist for poor choices.…

“If you fuel the journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of gas” is a quote made famous by Steve Maraboli that I do not agree with wholeheartedly. If you think about it, we run on the opinions of others. Our grades in school are based on the teacher’s opinion on how well we did, what we wear is based on what others opinions are of us, and in sports who is picked above who is based on the coach's opinion of how well they play. Most of the things we do are based on people's opinions and we should take them into account because some opinions are can help us greatly and give us more gas for our journey. If you think about it a teacher's grading and critiquing helps us get better so we will do better on more important tests…

My grading philosophy is, “yes, grades are important, but they do not define you”. I want my future student to know that that grades are important and that they should care, it is a snap shot whether they know a concept or not. This past semester, I have different view on how other feel about grades. One of the teachers I observed wanted her students to succeed and told her class that “learning checks” are not graded quizzes but a representation of what they know. They should not be upset on how any they got wrong, but for them to focus on ways that they can improve.…

Or what these numbers could be doing to those who just do not "measure up"? When pupils begin to value grades over knowledge, they will do whatever they have to do in order to receive an exceptional grade. Instead of grades, educators should give meaningful and stimulating feedback. When teachers make their students ' grades public to everyone else in the class, it can be embarrassing for those who may be struggling. One-on-one discussions can build trust between the teachers and pupils, making them more comfortable and confident in asking for assistance.…

My mentor teacher commented the different tasks as “interesting and useful” for the students. The students…
