Bandar Log Analysis

In the Jungle Book written by Rudyard Kipling there are many ways that the Bandar-log act like bullies, talk like bullies, and treat other people like bullies. The Bandar-log laugh at everything and have no respect for anyone or anything. The monkey people fight with each other, they also talk bad about others and make others look bad. The way the Bandar-log speak make them sound like bullies. On page 42 The monkey people sound arrogant when Kipling says “ there is no one in the jungle so wise and clever and strong and gentle as the bandar log.” They are trying to make others look bad and the Monkey people are trying to make themselves look better than others. Also Bagheera says on page 31 “ they have always lied”. On page 33 the monkey people said “This time, they said(monkey people), they were really going …show more content…
Like when the Monkey people drag Mowgli to the Cold Lairs and didn’t let Mowgli sleep. Rann told Bagheera and Baloo that “They ( the monkey people) may stay there (with Mowgli ) for a night, or ten nights, or a hour”. On page 32 Kipling says “ But whenever they found a sick wolf, or a wounded tiger, or bear, the monkey people would torment him, and would throw sticks and nuts at any beast just for fun, and in the hope of being noticed. Also the monkey people treat themselves poorly. As you can see, the monkey people act, sound, talk like bullies. This is why we need to stop bullying. Bullying is an extremely big problem in this world now a days. We as a city, state, and country need to stop bullying before it gets any worse because a lot of kids are being bullied in elementary school, high school, and college. With the help of a city, state, and a whole country we can all stop bullying because bullying does not feel good. Bullying really hurts people’s feelings. Do you want it to happen to you? The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a great book that gives the reader and insight of how life was for people with low income, foreigners and also how females and men were looked upon as. Sinclair signals how people that come from poor class are treated and also taken advantage of. Racism is also shown to foreigners, they are looked at as if they were animals. Sexism is shown when women are taken advantage and unable to say or do anything for their own safety.…

Every human has the ability to be cruel. Whether we are cruel or not helps to define who we are. In William Golding’s The Lord of the Flies, a group of young British boys are stranded on a remote island without any adult presence. They have no ability to communicate with the outside world. The stranded adolescents make a slow transition from a civilized frame of mind to complete savagery, treating one another with inhumane cruelty.…

The Ape and the Sushi Master was written by Frans De Waal to get his beliefs across, as well as open people’s minds to the subject of animal culture and to get people in the mindset that there may not be such a large divide between nature and culture. De Waals goal within the book is to also get readers reflecting on themselves in a cultural aspect. It is very evident that people have a habit of separating things into ‘good’ and ‘evil’, and many people wouldn’t want to see animals as equals to us. An example of this was brought up by De Waal in the text when he talked about humans using apes as a source of…

The Jungle, being one of many of Upton Sinclair's novels, was published in 1906. This novel was created based on Sinclair's experience in the meatpacking industry where he learned of the life of the stockyard workers and the structure of the business. As he learned and experienced the detail of the work he found that industrialization had unhealthy standards and from the social aspect it became a public outcry. His book, The Jungle had made a social impact but did not exactly got his point across. From the political aspect his point of the novel was to give sympathy to the working class and the conditions that they were working in with industrialization. The main characters in this novel are lithuanian immigrants which shows the cultural aspects. The relevance of this novel to the audience of the 21st century is that our younger population has learned and is learning how people arrived to the Americas. People are still migrating to the Americas and will continue. People immigrating are promised a better life with better pay and better conditions but sinclairs book exploits that.…

As we read in Lord of the Flies, Piggy would sometimes get bullied by a whole group of boy at once, who acted like a gang. It is definitely much more intimidating when a whole gang of boys throw cruel comments around. The person being bullied can physically get injured just as Jack beat Piggy after he killed his first pig. Jack had the support of the rest of his hunting group, which in a sense ganged up on Piggy. Jacks group also used coercion by torturing the twins to get Ralph’s location. Both gang behavior and coercion can leave a physical and/or mental scar that can haunt a person’s life forever. Bullying is a revolting action people take part in and as we stand today, we need to stand up and stand along side those who are experiencing bullying. We need to be bold and ban…

    Slow Violence Analysis

Humans tend to always place themselves as the most superior species. Nixon’s article gives this example through Summer’s speech. Summer’s does not consider Africa as somewhere people live in. He mentions how those people were discounted as long-term casualties, discounted as political agents, and as people who have concerns for their own. Nixon states “…environmentalism of the poor, for it is those people lacking resources who are the principal casualties of slow violence” (4) the rich do not suffer they only get their questions answered. Nixon continues “Their unseen poverty is compounded by the invisibility of the slow violence that permeates so many of their lives. Our media bias toward spectacular violence exacerbates the vulnerability of ecosystems treated as disposable by turbo-capitalism while simultaneously exacerbating the vulnerability of those whom Kevin Bale, in another context has called “disposable people” (4). These people are placed so below the hierarchy rich people put them in because Summer’s thought it was fine to send all of the waste to them because no one would care or even bother to notice. In “Boundary Issues” we see human verses animal, the idea that experimenting and oppressing animals because of their lack of human attributes is only because humans don’t think of the attributes they lack in. Rotpeter explains to the human audience “Instead, he tells us that he did not imitate human beings because they appealed to him; it was rather that becoming human seemed to him to be the only way out, the only way out of his cage, out of confinement, and out of the zoo that would have otherwise been his fate were he to remain an ape” (617). It is a shame that his only escape was to be human because he did not want to be trapped in another human prison. Similarly in the novel being discussed in the article, “We Are All Completely beside Ourselves” by Karen Joy Fowler, Fern is part of an…

Some students are too embarrassed to tell someone about it, they feel it is better to “tough it out” or it is better than being a “snitch”. To manage being bullied, a few kids look for vengeance. Being bullied and rejected lead to sentiments of seclusiveness and weakness. Thusly, victims regularly feel an extraordinary longing and need to recapture power and swing to savagery as their cure. This viciousness, combined with a total absence of any sympathy, makes for a fatal formula. Bullying is a standout amongst the most types of abuse in schools. One out of four children is bullied and 70 percent of these episodes happen in…

The people living there act like animals and it’s very obvious who the “king of the jungle” is. It’s the people running the meat packaging companies. They control everything. They decide when the workers get to work and when they get to leave. They decide how they get their paychecks and how they are spending their money they get from it. If you do something to one of them that they don’t like, they will make sure you can not get a job anywhere else, leaving you with no money which will ultimately lead to death. These employees are just the small animals in the jungle who get eaten and forgotten. Survival of the fittest plays a huge role in the humans in this novel as it does with creatures living in the jungle. Upton Sinclair added in numerous metaphors throughout the book that link back to Chicago being a jungle because of capitalism. In the novel, Jurgis bites off a man’s cheek as if he were an actual animal in the wild. There is also a chapter that talks about how the money in Marija’s pockets sunk her in the mud, meaning that the weight of money can make you feel stuck. The novel’s title symbolizes the competitive nature of capitalism. It’s kill or be killed, and the higher class always came out…

In The Lord of the Flies Golding introduces to the story privileged boys that have crashed onto an island and must find common ground in to survive. Golding’s message is that everyone has an inner savage, and that civilization is forced onto us. One of the central themes is that these boys have inner savages, and it causes them to do horrible things. For example, we watch one of the boys - Roger - go from a simple boy, to bullying littluns (Golding 62), to dropping a boulder on Piggy’s head (Golding 181). Roger gives into his inner savage and becomes less civilized as he becomes more detached from his island mates.…

I enjoyed the book along with learning an array of interesting facts about the culture of the Masai tribe of Kenya, the baboons, and Sapolsky’s life. The author’s stories triggered my emotions, which resulted in an exciting read. After connecting with the baboons throughout the book, I was devastated when I read about the terrible plague that swept through the tribe. This book was well written. It made me feel what the main character, Sapolsky, truly went through in the book. “Never in my life have I felt closer to drowning in anger, felt more poisoned, more lost in a corrosive sense of betrayal”. When Sapolsky felt betrayed... I felt betrayed as the reader. The only criticism that I could give would be that at times the stories were difficult to understand or his thoughts were hard to follow, but overall I am a big fan of A Primate’s…

I think the Jungle Book reflects our human nature to ostracize others just because we are different. In Mowgli's Brothers and the story following that, Mowgli was trapped in a sort of social limbo because the wolves excluded him because he was a human, and the villagers excluded him because he was raised by wolves. Also, in the White Seal, The white seal was laughed at because he wanted something more (but in the story he had the last laugh). Overall, I think the story is about social standing, ergo the references to the caste system and also position by birth.…
