The other applicants and I have been in band from the very beginning. We have been dedicated and devoted to making this program the absolute best it can be. In the 6th and 7th grade I remember getting frustrated because of being taking out of band for my dyslexia tutoring. Reading music was never an issue, I would only have issues when reading books. Band showed me that there was more to school than just Math and English, I began to see the larger world that was there for me to learn about and experience. When I had the opportunity to attend summer band camps at local college campuses I was able to learn more about my instrument and on leadership. With this instruction I was no longer the struggling little kid trying to speak in public, I was able to learn more each …show more content…
Band has taught me to be bold, even if I hit with the wrong note, I should play through it and keep going with the show, even if I trip and fall. Band has always been an important class to me and now in my senior year I have started to realize how much band has taught me over the years. This class has helped me learn how to stick up for myself, to be more confident, and to fight for that promotion when it is time. Band has taught me to excel in everything and anything that I do, even if it means to practice more. Being a part of this group has shown me how to collaborate when there are conflicts to overcome, or sharing knowledge to a new member on marching steps. Band means you have to work together to come up with the right tune and the right marching sequence. In order to do this everyone has to be able to get along and keep clear communications. In order to improve this, I through a summer band party. This event was off of school grounds, but allowed new members and current members to work together on leadership games and communication games. It was fun for everyone, even with this simple under lining teaching. Conducting this proves my dedication for this band, and how far

I played the clarinet for seven years and began marching band in ninth grade solely because it was required. I didn’t care for it so much and therefore only pursued it for one year after that. Yet, I did enjoy symphonic band because I would prefer to sit on stage, in decent clothing, with air conditioning or heat, and have the opportunity to at least watch the football games on Friday night. In my opinion, it 's a lot more educating too because symphonic band allows students to become more musically inclined and demonstrate their talent individually. While marching band students learn memorization and coordination skills as a group.…

The Philosophy of My Band Director When thinking about my band director in high school, I see her as an interventionist in Wolfgang and Glickman’s classroom management philosophy. Since my junior year of high school, I have observed my band director in her middle school band classes. Because her ensemble numbers have been growing rapidly, she has turned into an interventionist. She does not give the students much free time because they have the opportunity to get very loud and out of control. Her 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band classes all consist of more than 60 students and just one teacher.…

Band Council and Class Council were nothing alike. Class Council was more heightened and had more things going on than band, it was required to peppy, and I was completely unprepared... Band did not require that, it was always so serious, and the transition from band to class council was just an eye opener. I did not catch on to my responsibilities until a month into school. All I had going was my organization, and I thought my voice, until I realized my class was of 520 students and band in comparison was 120.…

The moment I decided to join the band was in elementary school when our class went to watch the middle school band play their Christmas concert. Although several of my friends had told me that classical music was dull and only useful for putting others to sleep, I loved listening to it. I would try to figure out what instruments were played and their individual part. I was glad to be able to listen to a live band without the need of speakers or headphones.…

During my 8th grade year, I had joined band searching for a chance of belonging. I had discovered, however, that band is more than just having a group of people to hang out with. Since I joined about two years later than most, practicing became a requirement. Every night I went home and rehearsed for hours, just so I wouldn’t fall further behind. About 500 blown-out reeds and two broken oboes later…

Over summer I was deciding whether or not to drop band and do something else for the school like speech and debate. In the end though I decided to stick with band and in doing so I have experienced many new things. So far I have not regretted doing band instead of speech and debate partially because they both do the same things like travel, give you opportunities to make new friends, and do something fun with friends. I am happy with the choice I made but if I had done speech and debate I would be doing all the same things as band but with different friends and groups of people and teachers.…

One of my lifetime goals is to become an anesthesiologist. I understand that it takes many years of schooling, hours of studying, and excellent time management to accomplish. This is my fourth year of being apart of the Weslaco East High School Wildcat Regiment but I have been a band member for nearly seven years. I have learned that being apart of a group activity has enabled me how to work well with others, discipline, responsibility, leadership, multitasking, communication skills, and shown me how to appreciate my peers and directors and treat them with the utmost respect. Being in band has also taught me that it is not just one person that succeeds a particular goal, it is an entire group that spends hours and hours working together as…
