This is seen in both shows, but most manifestly when Private, later Corporal, Merriel "Snafu" Shelton throws bits of Coral into the fractured cranium of a dead Japanese soldier while in the Peleliu hill. He has seen a mass amount of death, gore and therefore has grown accustomed to it, allowing him to find no distaste in playing with the corpses of enemy soldiers. This is also seen in any of the soldiers who get through the battles without mentally breaking down, since they use desensitization to their advantage so they feel distress when amidst fighting. In conclusion, people who go through battle are never the same due to the psychological damage, which often manifest into post traumatic stress disorder, physical wounds and desensitization. During the film, Oskar Schindler changes from a narcissistic individual who only thinks of money and women, to a caring and compassionate person that is determined to help Jewish people escape the violence and horrors inflicted by the Nazis. This change is caused by multiple factors. The major shift in his mindset occurs when he sees the girl in the red coat dead. By witnessing this, it puts a face to all those murdered by the Nazis. Obviously, he and countless other individuals in the Nazi party were not in their right minds and enjoyed their jobs, which helped fuel the atrocities that occurred during the Holocaust. In conclusion the Treaty of Versailles was the main cause of the Holocaust because it caused economic and political instability, allowing for the Nazi party to come to power and force their barbarous, deadly beliefs and policies on the people of Germany.
