Drum Corps is my passion, something that I love to do, and it has changed my life. Drum corps is a less known sport/art, that has evolved and grown in the past 44 years. It has affected me differently depending on when it was. My views on some things changed since I was actively there, but I would not want to lose that time for anything. Drum corps is an activity that I feel very strongly about, as well as the group of people that form the community, joining and doing it has been one of the best Ideas I have ever had, and it has aided me in my pursuit of happiness.

Each and every new day was a cause for excitement. New things to learn and more to do. We would wake up every morning at 7am, eat breakfast and then go to rehearse. We would do one of 3 activities, march in blocks, play music without moving or we would do both at the same time, and we would march on the field. My entire body gets sore and after very long or strenuous blocks, it becomes very painful. One of the biggest parts of drum corps is the high physical demand, and that makes your body sore. But, you can become incredibly athletic and in shape after this activity. And I have to just keep pushing through the pain each and every day. I feel pride about it, each performance I feel like I have given every last bit of energy, and that there is nothing I could do better. Performing is one thing that is the best about this activity. But to truly enjoy it, you must feel pride in your performance. By the end of the season, I felt the pride and excitement. I love this experience, the feeling of elation and excitement that comes with it. Through the pain and the sleep deprivation, I became part of a group, one that didn’t care who you are, what you do, or anything about you before. They encourage everyone to be the best they can, and it makes everyone better, which makes me, as well as everyone else happy to get better. Drum corps is an experience that must be experienced in the moment, knowing the feelings after a performance, the feeling of bonding with the other members of the corps, being in their presence
