Band Camp Reflection

Improved Essays
During high school I participated in many different extracurricular activities. Being involved in the marching band was one of the most rewarding experiences I had in high school. I wasn't a part of the band, but the color guard. When I first started color guard, I asked myself why I would dedicate the last two weeks of summer to twirling a flag. By the end of the first week of band camp I realized this is what I wanted to do in high school.
Band camp was long, arduous, and sweaty. I devoted more than a hundred hours over the first two weeks to learn the show. Those hours didn't include countless extra spent helping others and practicing alone. All the hard work everyone put in during rehearsals and band camp would pay off at every performance.

However, I knew that I had made a commitment and had to stick to it whether I liked it or not. This also taught me how to work as a team and the importance of being a part of something like that. Also, I have been involved in band all throughout middle and high school, as well as choir when I could fit it into my schedule. Band has taught me so many things, once again how to work as a team. Especially through marching band season, we all have to learn to work together and individually improve for the greater good of the whole band.…

We are expected to practice on our own time and have it ready for the weekly rehearsals. I played and marched in several shows throughout the fall marching season. I also participated in the concert band, which is all the band students and we play higher difficulty music. It’s different because not all band students are in marching band and the woodwinds are given a more important role in the music. Also I was able to join creative writing club as one of the founding members.…
