Tamara and Tiara Creek grew up in Calvert County, Maryland until the age of nine. Later moving to Upper Marlboro, Maryland where they attended middle school and Fredrick Douglass Senior high school. Tamara vividly recalled her senior high school days as if it was yesterday. She was on the basketball team, in the honor society, vice president of student government and vice president of student class.…
My favorite lesson/topic I learned this year was about cannibalism, Jamestown and Disney’s inaccurate movies. I liked learning about Jamestown because when the settlers ran out of food, they ate each other. I also liked learning about this because we got to play Minecraft and build our own little Jamestown. I enjoyed learning about cannibalism in general because I liked seeing Jaylens reaction about everything, and because it was just fun to learn about in general. If someone does cannibalism or “Biggest Fails in History” for ROWVA Chill I'm definitely taking that class.…
The field trip to the Lava Beds National Monument would be a good place to go. It is near the California and Oregon state boarder and is California's best kept secret. We should go to the Lava Beds National Monument because it would be a fun place to go and see things we never seen before. Lava Beds Monument could be really fun because we could climb and go in the slide that is there. It would be really fun.…
My favorite activity was a team building exercise called the Low Ropes. This exercise involved the use of ropes that were set up as obstacles and everyone had to get through them with the help of the teammates. Whenever someone slipped off or was about to fall the team members would be on the sides ready to…
It was my first time away from my family for more than a day or two. Camp seemed like a different place to me. It was fun with all sorts of activities to do you could do, any one of them. I remember making rope by spinning 3 pieces twine around each other. Making rope is the only fun thing that I can…
Seventh grade, my second year now at what I thought to be the worst school in the world. On back to school night I met a man who would change my perspective on life completely, that man being Brandon Lilly. Henry Adams once said “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” At a mere five-foot four he appeared to be a kid minus the burly lumberjack beard that he possessed. I remember being skeptical at first because I had never had a male teacher before.…
The most memorable unit from my educational experience occurred in my twelfth grade English class. The unit was a comparative reading about Beowulf and Gilgamesh, which entailed several discussion based lectures and a final paper comparing the archetypes of heroes and characters. For me, this unit was so interesting as we discussed what made a hero and the hero’s journey, during this time I was writing my own book. I connected with this lesson because of my experiences outside school; with this said, a friend of mine who was in the class with me recalls the unit as well. Though, our opinions of it differ.…
Everyone needs a humanity, because without it they are not human anymore. The Outer Party struggle to keep their humanity as the totalitarian government is constantly dehumanizing the state of Oceania, such as Winston Smith. “Orwell witnessed this first-hand the atrocities committed during the Spanish Civil War and lived during the rise to power of dictators such as Hitler and Stalin” (Bauer 1). Winston is raised during the rise of the Party, and as the Party continually attempts to dehumanize Winston, he continues to fight against the Party until he eventually loses his last strength of humanity. In addition, Winston’s lover, Julia grew up with not knowing the standard of humanity due to the Party’s greed with power.…
How much does caliber affect a person’s opinion? In the short story, “The Stolen Party” written by Liliana Heker, strongly emphasizes the differences within a society's class. It starts off with Luciana, a girl from the upper class, inviting Rosaura, the daughter of Luciana’s maid, to her party. Rosaura wholeheartedly believes that she is being treated as an equal, as Luciana’s friend, at the party, but throughout the night she is constantly fetching drinks, running around, and being purposely avoided. Through the development of Rosaura, the short story clarifies the levels in the social ladder; which suggests people in the higher parts of society manipulate and use those of lower social status because their desire for acceptance clouds their judgement.…
We would have PE, music, and library. I loved PE of course because I always wanted to beat the boys. I wasn’t the best at music, but it was extremely fun playing the instruments. I loved library day because that meant our librarian would read us a story. That year was also really embarrassing…
Hopefully everyone has one big thing or just something little that they remember having fun or liked doing something in middle school. Just brief things can brighten up your middle school years and mine was Cap/sadd. Consequently, the best part about middle school was being in Cap/sadd. Being in Cap/sadd was one of my best decisions in middle school. I say it was my best decision in middle school because it made me think about the things I'm doing out of school.…
Tycianna Caldwell Reynolds ENGL 1010-01N 8 Oct. 2015 Taken for Granted: America We as individuals are very quick to look only at the bad sides of situations. We are sometimes only able to see the things that we do not have and overlook the things that we do. We take for granted things like freedom, equality, and being able to gain an education. Many forget that these things are not guaranteed to others that live in different places. I realized how fortunate I am to live in America when I met someone from another country.…
My favorite activity was the cups activity because we needed to communicate if we wanted to win. I also liked the pink strings activity were we needed to untie us from each other by moves. It was fun. Saving sammy was cool too. We needed to save him from a boat that was sinking.…
What makes up an election is dependent on the various options the people have of choosing from. In politics, more parties means more opinions, which means more options for those who chose to vote. This can be seen as a constructive thing as the voter can decide from various opinions between the political parties. Or quite possibly deconstructive as having various dominant parties has a much higher chance of leading to a minority government, depending on how the countries system works. In Canada, there are many parties that have the ability to run, however only five of them are ever in the picture.…
In the early periods of Normalization thousands, of Czechoslovaks fled the country which seemed to be a sinking ship. As the months progressed and the Soviet Communists solidified their power in the state borders were closed off and passports confiscated. Anyone who had been in any way associated with the former Social Democrat Party or who supported a free market economy and democratic ideals were immediately black-listed and found themselves unable to obtain work or aid and at the forefront of persecution. Those who were suspected of having loose loyalties were aggressively interrogated and if enough suspicion was established they were relieved of their employment and dismissed from their schools pending improper trials for crimes that were…
