“Insults, temper tantrums, selfishness, gross behavior, and plain old stupidity – these are the main ingredients for most of today’s reality TV shows.” (Cohen 14) Reality shows began with The Real World in the early to mid 1990’s. Ever since, television has grown to broadcast all types of reality shows from Laguna Beach, a show about high School drama and love to The Jersey Shore, which is a reality show casting Italian, Jersey 21+ year olds who party and do things that most people didn’t think would be appropriate to televise. Not only are these shows inappropriate, but they are that way on purpose. These reality shows are sometimes scripted and almost always edited to be more entertaining. It’s time to ban the non-sense of fake reality TV to protect the reputation of the cast and protect the world, especially teens from the violence, foul language and other inappropriate behavior.

If television does not change their tune people are only going to develop worse expectations and thoughts on the way life is. If television does decide to ban reality television, there will be more television shows that are scripted and do not have as much vulgar language that has to be bleeped out, or nudity that has to be blurred out. Teenagers are being exposed to and shown a fake, entertaining way of life for young adults. The teens want to mimic what the young adults do because they are always looking for their fame also whether it is in a small town or in the media. Media in general has only worsened over time, especially since these reality shows began airing in the early to mid 1990’s. Being exposed to the trash talking, fighting, drama and disrespect only desensitizes people to bad behaviors and making people think it’s
