Balzac And The Little Seamstress Essay

There are many characters in the book Balzac and the Little Seamstress by Dai Sijie. A character who has changed the most over the course of this novel is the Little Seamstress. In the beginning of the book the Seamstress doesn't explore her own interests. She does what she wants most of the time but feels trapped in the life she is living in, she also becomes daring and courageous over the course to the novel. “By the time we arrived the film had already started, and there was only standing room left behind the screen... But the Little Seamstress didn't want to miss this rare treat” (81). Despite them being late and missing some parts the Seamstress appreciated the film, this was a rare treat for her to leaves the house and do something that she was interested in. “Luo and I remained standing while she knelt down by her grandfather's grave. Suddenly she swung her head round to face us. 'About those books of his— what if we stole them'”(86). This shows the Seamstresses personality change, she went from grieving for her grandfather to getting the idea of stealing Four-Eyeses books.
