Baltimore City Detention Center Job Experience

It is possible to train leaders in the criminal justice system. Managers have the ability to be trained even though the development will be difficult it is attainable for them to learn and be successful (Stojkovic et at., 2008). Management has to face the fact that it is vital for them to become more involved and concerned with learning how to successfully manage their employee. They can do this by being more invested and interested with their employee’s needs, requests and troubles. Leaders have to develop a system that allows them to provide their employees needs within the organization as well as the public (Stojkovic et at., 2008). My internship experience with the Baltimore City Detention Center was an internship that I will never forget. I was able to get an inside look on the everyday activities of correctional leaders and managers work, as well as getting to see the abundance of things that can happen daily during the tour of a correctional officers daily tour. I was able to see the paperwork, the trainings, and the typical ordeals of officers patrolling the dangerous inmate housing units. As a criminal justice major, my knowledge of what the correctional managers do was truer compared to what the correctional officers believes. However, I still had a bit of apprehensive outlook because the managers did not work with and through their employees. Although correctional manager’s work can be quite repetitive, my experience was different every day. I participated in decisions making, paperwork, training, mentoring, and budget management. I was able to participate in helping the officers understanding the importance of policies as well
