Balmoral Castle, located in Scotland, has been the home of the royal family since 1852. Prince Albert originally leased it in 1848 for Queen Victoria as a gift. The Queen’s first visit to the castle was in the autumn of 1842, after two years of marriage to Albert. They both really liked the landscape of Scottish land, so they promised to return. After they realized how beautiful Scotland was, they jumped at the chance to purchase it. While they bought the estate in 1848, the business transactions weren’t actually complete until August 22, 1852. As happy as they were with the property, they had to rebuild the castle because it didn’t fit their needs. Prince Albert thought that rebuilding was necessary because the castle wasn’t large enough

Introduction Australia has some of the worlds most diverse and unique ecosystems, these are constantly under threat from both human impacts and natural processes. I believe that to protect our native species we need to attract people to our National parks, one example of this is Kings Park a state icon in Western Australia with over 13,000 different species located and protected on its grounds. The Triumph of the Value of Human Life Over the Value of Money: The Luxurious Impregnability of Concentric Castles vs. The Affordability of Old Castles One of the most frightening things is to be woken up by the dreadful noises of frantic screams of desperate people and the horrific smells of burning wood and flesh; to frantically run through the suffocating smoke and, just about when you reach the outside and think you are safe, to watch your castle, your home, your protective fortress disappear in front of your eyes, engulfed in flames. This was a common situation that those living in a wooden medieval castle had to face. This could be a gorey scene from a horror movie; however, for medieval kings and lords, this was their reality that…

Herstmonceux Castle is centrally located in the picturesque English county of East Sussex. Although its natural landscape has existed since prehistory, this area was not colored with recorded societal culture until after the land itself morphed from seaside Roman and Anglo-Saxon battlegrounds to the peaceful seat of the first English brickwork castle. Since Herstmonceux Castle’s 1402 completion, the single most important timeframe has proved to be that of the 1630s. Sir Francis Lennard, Lord Dacre, its owner at the time, was the great-grandson of the castle’s initial owner and contractor Roger Fiennes. According to ‘A History of Herstmonceux Castle’ by Calvert, Martin, and McLean, he set the standard for the Castle’s upkeep, in addition to…

A siege tower was used to attack or capture an opposition’s castle. The siege tower was a large and tall tower on wheels, it would roll up to the castle in an attempt to overpower the defenders on the walls. Six large wheels, with three on either side would usually hold the tower up, and obviously move it forward. Inside the siege tower would have multiple levels that would hold troops of knights, so they are ready to cross the drawbridge at the second from the top level. A drawbridge at the top is lowered when the tower is in place so the knights inside can storm across onto the opposition’s wall.…

The Lady Macbeth Effect The mechanisms of evil minds are different than those that dont feel or want to commit actions attributed to some of history's worst people. These people see the world differently, maybe as if life is a trap or as something to conquer, nevertheless they usually view the world and everyone in it as being against them, and these people will try everything in their power to gain some sense of control in whatever way they can. In Shakespeare's play “Macbeth”, the character of lady macbeth suffers from this same inner turmoil, and in effect is presented as committing many atrocities indirectly, and by manipulating those around her she has caused the downfall and death nd of various people including herself, and as her sins are committed physically by others such as her husband, the question of whether she is evil, is sadly still debatable.…
