What is Balmain, and who is the man behind the brand?

Balmain is a fashion house that was founded in 1946 by Pierre Balmain (born 1914 in France) a French haute couture fashion designer. Throughout the years, Balmain has had different head designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Christophe Decarnin and current creative director Olivier Rousteing.
Olivier Rousteing (born September 13, 1986 in Bordeaux, France) studied at ESMOD, Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (School of Arts and Fashion Techniques), in Paris. At age 17, he graduated and started working as a designer for Roberto Cavalli, an Italian fashion designer. Rousteing was the creative director at Cavalli’s for the women’s prêt-à-porter collection for five years.

In 2003, Rousteing started working at Balmain. He was Christophe Decarnin’s (Balmain’s creative director since 2006) right hand. Decarnin was replaced by Rousteing when he was only 24 years old. Rousteing became Balmain’s creative director in 2011. Before replacing Decarnin, he was an unknown designer who wanted to give it a spin, and give Balmain a new look.

My biggest fashion icon has to be Hayley Williams, the lead singer of the famous pop-punk band, Paramore. Her style would probably best be described as ‘unique’. With dyed orange hair, brightly colored clothing, and a combination of patterns from head to toe, Hayley can look good in anything and everything. And because of her confidence and poise, she really does wear ‘anything and everything’! One of the reasons that I appreciate her style is because she wears outrageous clothes without concern for what anyone else might think.…
