Analysis Of Planet Fitness

Behind any good company, you will find a mission. A driver. A goal. Whether or not the intention of the company is simply to create revenue, make a change, or impact the environment or the people who frequent it, no company would exist if not to supply a service for its people. In general, every good company also operates better with a clear and consistent objective, which is why having a “mission statement” is a considerable asset for an organization. A company is, after all, a group of people operating toward a common goal; and, how can a group move forward successfully without a common direction?

One of my favorite fitness studios, Planet Fitness, happens to be listed on www.missionstatements.com as being a company having provided

Planet Fitness also fully illustrates its Mission Statement through its website which it bares proudly on its “About Us” page, detailing the company’s commitment to creating a safe non-judgmental environment for its clients, promoting active lifestyles, and supplying tools applicable for people of every fitness level (http://www.planetfitness.com).

As mentioned previously, Planet Fitness prides itself on creating a safe, non-judgmental environment for its clients. This ideal is clearly stated in its mission statement which reads that Planet Fitness strives “to provide a unique environment in which anyone . . . can be comfortable . . . A Judgement Free Zone” (Planet Fitness; Mission Statement, 2015), which is directly mirrored on the company’s ‘About Us’ webpage, which states verbatim that they are “Judgement Free” and “believe no one should ever feel Gymtimidated . . . that everyone should feel at ease in [their] gyms” (Planet Fitness; About Us,

Their website embodies this element of its Mission Statement on it’s ‘About Us’ page by offering “unlimited fitness training programs” to suit “every fitness level”, and by also emphasizing that in their gym “how you work out is up to you”. This concept is also reiterated again by the company’s offer in the mission statement to “kick [your butt] . . . if that’s what you need” (Planet Fitness; Mission Statement, 2015).

Finally, as is indicated in the Planet Fitness mission statement, their “product is a tool . . . that can be used by anyone” (Planet Fitness; Mission Statement, 2015). Essentially, this reiterates the idea supplied by the company’s ‘About Us’ page that “It doesn’t matter if your legs have never seen a squat machine before . . . we will cheer you on either way” and also through the company’s following short, welcoming introductory video located at the bottom of the website, which explains in great detail the company’s mission and

The mission statement would explain who the main consumers will be, goods and services that are produced by the company, and the geographic location of the business. According to Belcher, L. (2013), “Most companies have a mission statement that gives people an idea of their overall goals for the organization.” In short, the mission statement is basically an outline of the business’s purpose, the industry, and their competitive advantage which could be as simple as a brief statement outlining the company’s objectives and viewpoints. The mission statement would also need to be communicated efficiently company-wide. It is also important that the mission statement is reviewed periodically to ensure that everything is still accurate, and that all employees have a clear understanding of the mission statement.…

I believe they have followed through with their mission statement as they are the most convenient and accessible gym in the country by being opened 24 hours a day and by having the most gym locations in Canada. Goodlife also offers a variety of fitness classes and educated trainers to help people live a fit and healthy good life. One other way I believe Goodlife has gone above and beyond their mission statement is by donating to charities. They have started multiple charities, one for the Cardiovascular Institute in Toronto, which they donated five million to, and to an autism research organization in London and in British Columbia which they have donated five million to each (CITATION). Goodlife also started the Goodlife kids foundation which has impacted the life of 250 000 Canadian kids to date (CITATION).…
