This results in a more prosperous and less stressful life (Lee, 2010). Numerous adults tend to get stressed out and give up, not realizing that with setting a plan and goals you can succeed. For example, if you have 100 pages to read a week, one can take the total number of pages and divide it by the number of days in a week, making it a more easily attainable goal. This will provide a better balance and make a learner feel more relieved. University of Phoenix helps students with this as well. For instance, 5 week courses are planned very diligently. The website is also very organized, which makes it easy to read and navigate. Each week is separated on its own tab. This making it clear for students what the work load will be like for the week. From there the student can carefully plan how they schedule the weeks’ worth of homework.
Most adults go all through life just dreaming of being successful. Some thinking they just are not lucky or it’s just not the life paved out for them. Is there something different about the people that tend to be successful? What are they doing differently? They too can achieve success with careful goal setting. Per Bachel (PG# 2006) “What traits do very successful people have in common? Do they have more talent? More money? No. What they have is a goal-setting habit”. When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…

Everyone goes through life trying to be successful; but what actually is success? It is very difficult to define success because it is subjective to the person experiencing it. For instance, to a little child, success could be getting a gold star on his test, for a college student, success could be not failing an exam. Many people, however, just think of success in terms of money. If they cannot buy the same things their neighbors can, they do not see themselves as successful compared to those neighbors.…

For most of us the latter of the two scenarios describes us as college students. The only thing that needs to be added is the countless hours outside of class studying and also the part time or full time jobs that some of us have.…

With today’s school many students attending college find their self-having anxious. Students having anxious do not perform “well in unstructured, independent study projects where less anxious students might excel (Nicolson & Bess, 1997)”. With the increase in non-traditional students attending college, there is a need to understand how balancing of the multiple demands and roles of work, school, and life affects adult students. Stress emerged as an important variable with relationships to grade point average (GPA) and intent to persist along with goal commitment.
