Balancing Academic and Overall Health
As college students transition into a new chapter of their life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle has never been more imperative or straightforward. In order to become a well-rounded college student, young adults must eat healthy, work out, and be sure to build relationships.
As problematic or bothersome as it may seem, there are ways to for students to eat healthy without too much effort or difficulty. All colleges have dining halls accessible to all of the student population for a price. Although the full weight of that price seems to shrink when compared to seemingly limitless ice cream servings and a variety of toppings. (Rutgers Health Services) Water is definitely a health must and should never leave a student’s side at any time. Here at SUNY Sullivan, a student can fill up their own bottle with free ice water as long as the cafe is open. An “on-campus support network,” has been said to make the college experience easier and more fun. (McMullen) The best place to meet new friends in college is to join a club, sport, or organization that is interesting. Meeting like-minded individuals will help students stay active, have fun and relax more. By befriending fellow classmates, students are not only making their college experience easier by having potential study partners, peer editors, and notes in case of absences, but it also helps to have someone to lean on and unwind with in the future. Although college students have physically or mentally separated from their friends and family, they should still reach out to help fend off homesickness and loneliness by surrounding themselves with familiar faces (Rutgers Health Services). Minimizing stress and maximizing relaxation is key to good mental health. Spending time with friends is known to help tremendously with mental health. No activity is too trivial as long as they provide an escape from the stress of work or
