Forgiveness occurs when a person lets go of his or her feelings of revenge and the need for retaliation and changing thoughts about the transgression and the transgressor (Cahn & Abigail, 2014). As with any other humanistic act, there are advantages and disadvantages of forgiveness, affecting a person’s psychological, physical and mental health. When a person chooses to follow through with the act of forgiveness, the choice is made to release the grief and hurt that may follow the transgression. In addition, the lack of control over one’s emotions may be affected because blame has to be placed somewhere, so why not put it on the other party. Forgiveness allows the release of grudge holding. Holding grudges constitutes an egocentric position wherein we view those who have hurt us only in terms of what we need, what we wish, or what we long for (Cahn & Abigail, 2014). There is various deviation of how a conflict should be addressed, and the best outcome specific to the offense. Although deception is typically viewed from a personal aspect, it also has a presence in an organization. Once the line is crossed from an organizational perspective, it is important to have a clear understanding of the key roles that forgiveness and reconciliation play in relational transgression. The best outcome of deception, and whether forgiving or reconciling is important in the present relationship, as well as establishing a future within the same relationship needs to be determined and measured by all parties
