Baking Soda and Vinegar Rockets
Introduction:
Baking soda and vinegar are both compounds that can go off at any moment when it is applied. We had to see what would happen is we added 10mL of vinegar in the canister and see what amount of baking soda could make the canister go the furthers. We found out that this whole turning baking soda and vinegar to a rocket was going to be a chemical change. The chemical name for baking soda is (NaHCO3) and the chemical name for vinegar is (CH3COOH) and both of these elements are compound. At first we had to see how many mL that the canister could fill. After that we had to figure out what was the maximum amount of baking soda could fit in the canister.

Quickly put the paper towel into the canister, snap on the lid, shake and point foreword
4. Repeat 3 time for each amount of baking soda
Results:
The first 5mL of baking soda we shot went 528cm when it was done it splattered and the towel stayed in the canister. The second 5mL we shot went it went 500cm and made it smell pretty bad. The last 5mL of baking soda we shot went 500cm again and this time we hit Noah and the paper towel stayed in the canister once again. After we shot the 5mL of baking soda three times, we calculated the average of 509.3cm.
For the first 10mL we shot we got 577cm and this time it actually went farther than the 5mL we did. The second 10mL we shot we got 398cm ad this time smoke came off the canister. The last 10mL of baking soda we got 500cm popped really quickly. Once again we calculated the average of the three total distances and we got 491.6cm.
For the last amount of baking soda we shot 15mL and got 300cm and powder went everywhere on the table. The second shot we did we got 475cm and the pop was really loud. The last shot we fired went 50cm because we had to much paper towel in the canister so it didn’t fire. After that we did the average and we got 275cm.

    The gas bubbles was caused by the mixture of baking soda and phenol red. Though we did not have any labs in which liquid was exempt from the experiment it is something that we were looking at as a possible future trial.
