Taking a closer look at the painting was very interesting and we learned that we do not need to know anything about art to enjoy looking at it and identify why we like the piece and why we do not like it. The staff at the museum described what students and adults learn when they come to visit and it is amazing because I did learn so much from my visit. Another thing that we learned was how the shapes in the art show artist emotions just like color does. Circles are said to be more playful and fun and triangles are more aggressive and dangerous. Artists use many different types of shapes and lines to say something with their art. Lines can tell the place that artists are painting and there are many lines going in different ways. Charles White created this portrait of Frederick Douglas in 1983. You can see he did etching in this portraits and it is amazing to see on the left side all of the lines he used to create this portrait. This piece seems to be contextual because it expresses what was going on at the time with the civil rights
