    Paul Barnwell's Speech

As society grows, technology grows with it. Technology has been around for many years and advances at the same rate, if not faster, than humans. It is remarkable how much technology has developed, yet it is also terrifying. We, as humans, rely on our technology to entertain us, to speak for us, and even to think for us. In Paul Barnwell’s article, “My Students Don’t Know How to Have a Conversation,” he effectively uses rhetorical strategies through the use of imagery, relating to the readers, and using his credibility as a teacher to convey to his readers that students rely heavily on technology to a point where they cannot communicate to another human being without using their screens as a crutch.…

Bernie Sanders supporters were shocked yesterday when Jesus Christ appeared on the O’reilly Factor to put an end to any comparisons between himself and the democratic candidate. “I like Bernie, but people have this misconception of me as a socialist” Jesus told O’Reilly , “and that couldn’t be farther from the truth” Indeed, Jesus - who sometimes puts out mixtapes under the nickname Me$$iah Money - points to all of the merchandise bearing his likeness as proof that he supports capitalism. “Everytime someone buys a cross or a WWJD bracelet, I get a cut” said Jesus, “Anytime you slap one of those Jesus fish bumper stickers on your car you’re making me rich. The almighty father ain’t got nothin’ on the almighty dollar!” Jesus was also quick to dispel the notion that he was big on charity “People send me prayers asking me to cure their Grandmother’s cancer or feed their starving children all the time” said Christ, “ and I’m always like ‘What do I look like Hershel the Handout Heeb?…

Hello University of Chicago reader. I appreciate the time you all at the admissions office have taken to reach out to kids like me. To be honest, I’m writing this during the gaudy presentation my school hosts for cap and gown, run by an independent company. Flashes of jewelry imprinted with a metal number 18 on it are gracing the screen on the auditorium stage, and the cloaked (metaphorically) salesman speaks of the beauty of the rings bonding with the importance of remembering the past. The opportunities that I’ve had in high school, along with the community I’ve been in, are important to me, but I doubt buying a 3000$ ruby ring with ‘CDS’ carved into it would assist me in learning from my four years of experience.…
