The setting of this story is probably during the early 21st century because Tate’s family owns several computers which before the 21st century were very expensive and not well developed. Tate as we already know lives in Spokane, Washington home to one of the most “biggest, deepest, craziest skate bowl” (5) he believes. The local skate park created a common interest for the children of Spokane. Tate describes his brother as being able to “skate it like he was born on the flip side of the deck” (5). Not only does the skate park have an effect on the teens of Spokane, but also has an effect on one’s character.…

Then coming to the second man I planted my right foot into the ground then as I planted my left one I took my right hand off my stick, I threw it around my left side of my body and around my back as I left the player in disbelief and dazed. Then I took off I could feel their sticks hitting my arm like hail hitting the earth in a hail storm feeling like stubbing your toe on the edge of a table. I could feel my legs working like gears in a factory them burning like they were on fire.…

This story begins on a hot, summer Sunday on a neighborhood playground in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida when I was a kindergartener. The playground had one item that I liked the most which was a thing that you would hold onto then someone would push you across ten feet while your feet were hanging down. My dad came up to push me and might have pushed me a little too hard. When I got to the end of the line there was a rubber block that stops you very abruptly. Due to inertia, I was flung off of the handle over the rail, then did some crazy acrobatics in the air, Finally I landed right on top of my left wrist.…

Today is going to be just like any other day, I sketched in my morning journal. The morning Baltimore sun shone past the skyscrapers of downtown, and light protruded through the silk blinds that covered half of the picture window in my room. I rose up from my queen bed. One Friday afternoon, after a long day of school I had to go to basketball practice to get ready for regionals. Everything was going good, pretty normal practice. Our coach wanted us to get our conditioning in so he had us run some patchies. A patchy is like a suicide, which is when you run to the free throw line, turn around and sprint back, then run to the half court line and run back, and so on. But instead of turning around and running back to the line you ran backwards to the line.…
