In the story, Bad Boy, Walter Dean Myers is basing this story on his life. In chapter 1 Roots, Walter is talking about how it all started. On page 3, it tells you that he was born on Thursday, August 12, 1937. Also on page 3, it tells you that his mother died after she had his sister Imogene. When she died, his father was left with 7 children to take care of. Their names were Gertrude, Ethel, George, Walter, Imogene, Geraldine, and Viola. Florence Dean adopted Walter, and left Walter daddy. On page 4 it said they moved to Harlem, New York with Herbert Dean. In chapter 2 Harlem, it’s telling you about his first real home. On page 7 it tells you how the music spilled onto the busy streets which he liked. On that same page it says a woman would always pick him up every Sunday for Sunday school. After …show more content…
On page 17, it tells you that he was in 1st grade, but he could read a second grade level. The reason why he couldn’t skip 1st grade was because he had a speaking problem. On page 18, it stated that he was getting picked on about his speaking. One kid named Manuel kept saying it until Walter punched him dead in his face. Everybody circled around him and asked was he dead. Walter got punished by the principal. His punishment was to write 5 hundred times, “I will never, never hit any student at Public School 125.” On page 21 it tells you that he would play basket at the gym. In chapter 4 Arithmetic Summer, it tells you the thing that would happen over the summer. On page 27, it says that his sister, Viola got married to a soldier name Frank Law in 1944. On that same page it says they had a baby named, Frank Stephen Law. Because of Mrs. Zeiss, he had to do work over the summer. So he had to spend time with Frank doing math problems.
