Bacon's Persuasive Argument

Improved Essays
Would any of Bacon's essays have been more persuasive if he had talked about his own experiences: In my mind are three things that I believe to be the holy trinity of a persuasive argument. Logic, rhetoric, and a easy to follow argument are the three most important things to provide a persuasive argument. The problem with experiences is that it needs a witness, its he said she said evidence. This generally isn't the type of evidence that supports arguments unless they are observed on a large scale. However, if you can use those experiences as rhetoric then they have a greater effectiveness. The mark of a truly great writer is when he can use his logic and rhetoric to convince intellectuals, but the argument and writing style can still be understood

Right as I walked into the crime scene, I noticed the right hand indention on the wall, as well as the three sets of footprints on the wet floor. Footprints Z, went from a stool to the kitchen. Footprints Y went from the mop bucket, to the cash register, to the kitchen. Finally, footprints X came from the bar, and barely went into the water, then turned and walked back. The cash register was open, with money still in it, and was rung up at $8.75.…

In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck George Milton kills his best friend Lennie Small. Because Lennie did bad things which he would of been killed for by other characters, but George decided to shoot Lennie in the head when he was not looking so he did not suffer. George also knew that if he did not do it himself Curley would have beaten and killed Lennie for killing his wife in much harsher ways than if George killed him. Lennie did not deserve to die because he ultimately had not intention of hurting and killing those he did kill.…

There are many ways to persuade a reader: character, logic, emotion, arrangement of the points, and rebuttal of the topic. For an essay to influence the reader, it needs to effectively use at least two of these methods. “The Undercover Parent” by Harlan Coben is more persuasive than “The Locavore Myth: Why Buying from Nearby Farmers Won’t Save the Planet” by James McWilliams because it uses character and emotion in a more effective manner. In “The Undercover Parent,” Coben uses emotion to reach out and grasp the audience.…

Studying history without any outside biases is a challenging concept, that can determine how one views a historical moment. Bacon’s Rebellion is an example of this, because interpretations can portray it in a positive or negative light. Nathaniel Bacon, the man credited as the leader of this rebellion, had questionable motives and methods for obtaining his position in the newly found country. Analyzing Bacon’s background, his actions and motives, and the consequences these actions had can provide readers with the knowledge to decide if what he did was justifiable.…

It 's hard to believe that there was a time in American history where certain human beings had few rights because of their color or gender. These individuals were considered possessions, mistreated and abused in the most horrific ways. No rights, no humanity and pushed to the brink. Cornered into a position where concern for laws and a future no longer seem to matter. All was hopeless, no where to turn and completely powerless to make a choice or consider options.…

I remember vividly how it started as a small revolution under the leadership of Nathaniel Bacon back in 1676; the times were difficult given that we were experiencing tough economic times that included low tobacco prices, the main crop of Virginia, and higher than normal pricing for goods and high taxation (McCulley, 1987). The rebellion was meant to find solutions to the problems that we were facing. Besides, the ineffective leadership, under the Sir William Berkeley, Governor of Virginia, precipitated the formation of this Bacon rebellion (Wiseman & Oberg, 2005). Berkeley had a long past that included being a veteran of the English Civil Wars and also participating as a frontier Indian fighter (McCulley, 1987). On the other hand Nathaniel Bacon, Jr., was sent here by his father in hopes that he would learn act like a proper adult, proved to be a troublemaker…

THON canning is more than simply about getting to get together with friends over a weekend in the fall, it is about raising money to support the search for a cure for pediatric cancer, and support the Four Diamonds Foundation in its mission to aid children impacted by the disease. The following paper discusses why the decision to cancel canning events indefinitely at the Pennsylvania State University, while supported with valid arguments, is not the best option for the Penn State/THON community. The overall purpose of the piece is to stimulate conversation on how canning may continue in the future as a THON tradition, instead of being abolished altogether. This is a relevant issue in that the “last” canning weekend ever was a few weeks ago, and while many first-year students enjoyed their first exposure to the event, many THON veterans were lamenting the fact that it was the last time students at the university would have this unique opportunity.…

Entmans’ piece on framing left me believing that salience is key when reporting on a topic, or covering an issue. We touched on the fact that gatekeepers, or a few elites, decide what is newsworthy. Salience means “making a piece of information more noticeable, meaningful, or memorable to audiences… enhance[ing] the probability that receivers will receive the information, discern meaning and thus process it, and store it in memory” (Fiske & Taylor, 1991; Entman, 53). So, I pose this question: if the news we consume is predetermined, are our opinions on said issue truly authentic?…

If you don’t take Swift seriously, you don’t take contemporary music seriously. With the (arguable) exceptions of Kanye West and Beyoncé Knowles, she is the most significant pop artist of the modern age. The scale of her commercial supremacy defies parallel—she’s sold 1 million albums in a week three times, during an era when most major artists are thrilled to move 500,000 albums in a year. If a record as comparatively dominant as 1989 had actually existed in the year 1989, it would have surpassed the sales of Thriller. There is no demographic she does not tap into, which is obviously rare.…

Huxley provides several arguments to refute the critic’s opinion that every citizen should be fighting for their homeland since it provides services. Firstly, Huxley states that since services are funded through the taxation of its citizens, then it is not fully provided by the government and therefore not a reason why its citizens should fight. Why should a country’s citizens fight for it as a way of return for the services it provides when its citizens already pay for its services? Secondly, Huxley states “The State was made for man, not man for the State” (250). Government is designed to control the people that live in it and should not use its people to protect its views about other countries.…

Sometimes making a hard choice can be harsh but, if it means the person you love will be safe at the end it’s worth it. John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’ is about two men,George and lennie, traveling together trying to fulfill their dream of owning their own ranch someday but they come upon one of them committing a murder. George kills Lennie and I firmly believe that it was the right thing to do because he was protecting others, keeping him from suffering and, he was protecting Lennie from himself.…

Thomas Frank in the essay, Commodify Your Dissent, argues that American culture has become dependent on rebellion. Frank supports his argument by illustrating the social norms in America during the 1950s with the suburban correctness. For example, he discusses how society respected authority, a mass majority of people attended church, and sexual repression (Frank 152). Then Frank dives into the social rebellion following countercultural ideas. Thomas quotes Jerry Rubin stating “Amerika says: Don’t!…

Zinczenko argues why consumers are not at fault for the effects of fast foods and sympathizes with kids who were trying to sue McDonalds. Francis Bacon’s holding of adulterated moral and religious position clarifies his pragmatist mind in his essays. He made an agreement with pragmatism which is defined by Mautner in his Dictionary of Philosophy: “Pragmatism can be briefly described as the theory that a proposition is true if holding it to be so is practically successful or advantageous.” (2005, p.485) He deals with problems that choke our worldly success in a practical way keeping morality aside. His essays reverse the statement- obstacles and problems can resist our improvement, advancement, and progression. Keeping an eye to the aforesaid statements, he casts off usury but supports monopoly in Of Riches: “Monopolies, and coemption of wares for re-sale, where they are not…
