Background and Key Events
The original Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866 by a group that included many former confederate soldiers from the civil war. The group started out as just a social club that was located in Pulaski, Tennessee. In the summer of 1867, branches of the Klan in and around Pulaski met together at a general convention. What they had formed they called the “Invisible Empire of the South.” Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest was chosen as the first to lead the Ku Klux Klan. His positions was also known as the “Grand Wizard.” There is no individual Ku Klux Klan, it is comprised of many different factions. Each different Klan group or segment had its own headquarters. The largest Klan organization still around today is known as the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. It is based in Harrison, Arkansas. Today remaining KKK groups are taking a non-violent approach at spreading their beliefs to the American populations. They mainly attend protests and rallies. One of these rallies October 20th, 2007 in Tupelo, Mississippi ended in confrontation immediately afterward. The rally was being hosted by one of the existing branches of the Ku Klux Klan, The Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The protest was against illegal immigration and local sex offenders, and supported putting mandatory prayers back into school. Today the Ku Klux Klan takes many different approaches of relaying their thoughts and beliefs. One of these ways is a YouTube show the Klan has just for kids. The show is called the Andrew Show and the show consists of 21 episodes. The channel that uploaded the show is called AShowForWhiteKids which has 361 subscribers and over 175,000 views between all 22 of their posted …show more content…
The pursuit of a nation’s interest is a very important part of being successful. Although national interests should be pursued to a large extent, we need to draw the line where the pursuit becomes too intense to the point of violence. If a nation is attempting to pursue something that harms others it would not be in their best interests. Even though it could be benefitting them it would be harming another nation. If it comes down to stopping a conflict then the interests should most definitely be pursued. On the other hand if the interest being pursued has the potential to strike a new conflict, it should be avoided by a nation at all costs. It is important that a nation takes into careful consideration if an interest being pursued will harm any people, nation, or other race in the pursuit of said interest. If other people are not accounted for terrible things like war and the holocaust can take place. All in all, national interest should be pursued to the fullest extent possible with the exception that no people, nation, or race is being harmed in the
