Aristotle once made a statement that said: ”The roots of education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet”. But who reaps the fruits of education? You might have thought that it is only the individual who studies that benefits from education, but as President Barack Obama said in his speech “Back to School”, education is not just a matter of the individual it is in the highest degree a matter for the country, the future of the country.
So if you regard education as important how do you get your generation of students to care about their education?

The second thing Obama advocates is the American dream. By mentioning exemplary students Obama states that everything is possible in America, and that everybody has the possibility to chase the American dream.
“Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren’t any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same.”
In that way Obama says that everyone is the architect of his owns future, whereby he addresses liberal ideas. Nevertheless Obama bases his opinion on the fact “No one’s written your destiny for you” , which has the foundation of an equal America, where everybody has equal rights. Through a substantial use of pathos and good ending stories Obama encourage the students to study, because as Obama say: “… no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it.” . By talking to the students as a friend and by the use of empathy Obama makes the distance between him and the students smaller, and by using rhetorical techniques, such as repetitions, questions and he is levelling himself with the students, whereby he achieves in making a convincing argumentation for why the American students should
