My understanding and summary of “Coming into language” is about a young illiterate Hispanic male who had to struggle through the hardships of being racially profiled as a murderer. A self-titled “Chicano,” Baca felt the cultural prejudice early in life which lead to clashes with the police. At age seventeen Baca was detained by police as a suspect in a murder. All of this because of he was not willing to tell authorities how he received a gash on his arm. While in prison awaiting trial, Baca finds himself listening to other inmates reading aloud.…
In 1797, Isabella Baumfree was born into slavery, one of the 12 children of James and Elizabeth Baumfree,in Ulster County, New York. When Charles, her family’s master, died in 1806, the Baumfrees were separated. At the age of 9, she was sold into slavery along with a flock sheep for 100 dollars. Up until that time, Truth (known as Belle at the time), only spoke dutch. In later years, Truth wrote about how her master, John Neely, was cruel and harsh, beating her daily and once with a bundle of rods.…
The Journey Of An Explorer Cabeza De Vaca a guy who came to Texas and wasn’t even planning on coming here helped colonize it to what Texas is today. I was thrilled to be escaping from home and traveling to Gatlinburg. The cabin we would be renting was outstandingly gorgeous. I had my own full size bed , couch, and a full bathroom. Unfortunately it is a seven and half hour drive to the cabin from my house so of course we had to find something to do. We saw fifty out of fifty states, two provinces of Canada, and Great Britain license plates and the top three states we saw were Indiana, New York, and Ohio.…
Left Turn I sat on the wet, cold grass. Blood trickled from my chin. I wiped it with a gauze pad a paramedic gave me. In spite of everything that had just happened, I was okay.…
Personal Narrative The roaring off the engines became louder and louder, the fresh smell of tar wafted by my nose, Just as I was about to start the next lap, I see the orange cones right in front of me. I suddenly panic and just then I, well let me start from the beginning. It was a nice, hot, humid day in Myrtle Beach.…
As we continued our drive, the day felt like any other of our typical adventures. We went to go camping at Skinny Dip Falls about 30 miles into the Parkway. Macklemore was playing from the stereo, and my head was pressed against the window, taking in everything the scenery had to offer. I was infatuated with how the layers of mountains seem to fade away perfectly the further they were. There was a fog that clung low to the valleys giving off a “smoky” appearance, which is the reasoning behind its nickname “The Great Smoky Mountains”.…
Connection to Self: Tears of a Tiger I can relate the situation from the novel Tears of a Tiger to my own life. In the novel the group of four boys( Robert Washington, Andrew Jackson, B.J. Carson, and Tyron Wills) crashed a car into a retaining wall which then burst into flames and exploded killing one of the boys. On page one it states the vehicle “had been noticeably weaving across the lanes of the expressway just before it hit a retaining wall and burst into flames.”…
* .. Myself, your anguished unpleasant distressed situation reminded me a number of years ago when I had some terrifying serious adverse side effects of certain prescription drugs, prescribe by my doctor to help assist me with my nerves, my dearest housewife "Sweetheart Asya". * .. As a result, it causes such a horrific panicking reaction in problematically affecting my breathing that I could hardly breathe normally for several hours. * * ..…
My hearts beat louder and faster the further away we got from Santa Maria. Silence was the only noise that came. Besides the van's engine and graveling ground. In the mirror, I saw Roberto. A blank expression.…
I was not used to being clueless. Just as for many teenagers, when I got my license a new world was open to me. This was certainly a world where I had more freedom, and I had to learn how to navigate it, in more ways than one. Learning how to communicate with my parents as an adult was not easy. My new found freedom came with the catch of proving to them that I would be responsible and reliable.…
Shafts of light shot through the windows on the otherwise still night, neatly silhouetting Dean and Rob in the front seats. Jack watched them, silently tracing their shadows from the backseat. The only sound was the humming of the engine, a gentle serenade to the void outside their car. He supposed this quiet was, in part, due to the circumstances they’d found themselves in. “So,” Rob murmured from his place behind the wheel, “who wants to pick up the gasoline?”…
Recently while spending a legally required weekend at my dad’s house, my dad received a text message from my step mom Crystal. The message read she was going to commit suicide! Frantically my dad jumped from his seat and shoved his feet into his boots, not bothering to lace them. On his way out the door he spun around and violently screamed “This is all of your fault!”. His words were piercing, breaking down and weakening the already fragile bond between him and I.…
Disbelieve and fear shook my mind as I lie on my back, sitting on top of concrete sandwiched in between the hot metal hood of a car, as the weight pressed down against me it didn’t hurt, my body was too numb to feel anything. All I could feel was a car pushing me further into the ground pushing my lungs down and shutting air out of it. It felt too surreal I kept blinking as if I thought I’d wake up from this mess. I could see sirens and people gathering around me watching in disbelieve, I kept fading in and out of conscience I felt like I was close to death.…
The day i almost died From then on I will never forget the day i almost died in a car crash. This event occurred in 2016 one day in the afternoon, I was also 12 years old at the time. I was also in fact more fragile and scared in those times. I also learned to always be thankful for being able to go through bad life events from being in one myself. Up until that day I woke up in the morning to hear my mom yelling at me, “Get your clothes on I don’t have time to wait!”…
