Many times in life, people are subjected to be overcome with greed. It is too often that we witness people spending money they don’t have in pursuit of impressing people they often don’t even like. Ultimately it seems the vicious circle ends in regret and self-loathing. This seems to be a pressing theme presented in the 2013 film The Great Gatsby and in Scott Fitzgerald’s Babylon Revisited. Charlie and Jay Gatsby share many similarities throughout their stories. However most obviously they were both wealthy and well-known yet they are stuck on mistakes they had both made in their youths. The movie The Great Gatsby is narrated from a third party’s view. By a man named Nick whom is related to the unattainable love interest of the whole story; Daisy. Daisy is portrayed to be the most beautiful and kind and she as well as Jay Gatsby have a love that’s never dwindled. However Gatsby was drafted by the army and they lost touch. All these years later now. Daisy is now married to another man whom cheaters on her constantly, with a mechanics wife named Myrtle. In this particular story it appears that some time has now passed now and Charlie is back, not wanting to miss any more time in his daughter’s life. “To think of Sundays spent with her and of saying Good Morning to her and of knowing she was there in the house at night, drawing her breaths i the darkness.” (Baym 2013 p.2175) After relentless arguing Marion’s stance began to waiver.
