Many of our favorite baby carriers will work wonderfully for mothers recovering from cesarean deliveries, especially now that so many c-sections are done with very low transverse incisions. A well-fitted (or well-adjusted) carrier will be the best choice to eliminate strain on your abdomen (or back).

Some moms have success using a Hotslings Pouch, assuming that sizing is correct.

As mentioned earlier, the vast majority of c-sections utilize a low, transverse incision … and almost any carrier can be used without touching the sensitive area as it heals. Instead, a high and tight fit will ensure that the incision site doesn’t experience any strain or pulling that may arise from a looser fitting sling. The discomfort from an ill-fitted baby sling will be more pronounced for a mom recovering from surgery than it might be in any other postpartum mother.

Ring Slings and Moby Wraps can be adjusted for a perfect fit each and every time a baby is carried (hours old, weeks old, months old) and in any position (cradle, tummy to tummy, hip). Some moms heal quickly from c-sections, but some moms take longer to recover. Ring Slings and Moby Wraps will ensure a high and tight fit both during and well beyond a mom’s respective recovery period. Both baby sling types are also easy to use from a sitting or resting position, and are perfect for use even in the hospital.

Ring Slings and Wraps are not only our favorite for nursing and for newborns in general, but are also baby slings for moms recovering from a cesarean deliveries.

There are baby carriers that are designed to be worn as a sling. This can help your infant by allowing them to lay down and nap while you go about your daily chores, but often the weight of your little one will be on one shoulder, which can be uncomfortable for you. Carriers that allow you to wear your infant on your back, may provide comfort for you both, but a newborn baby will not be able to nurse in this sling. There are hip carriers available, but you have to carry all of their weight on your side. The most comfortable baby carriers end up being the ones that you can wear with the baby on your chest.…

The baby's weight must be closely monitored to ensure that she is getting enough milk and nutrients to grow and develop. A breastfeeding expert can be requested in most hospitals that can help you to recognize when you are producing enough milk and if the baby is latching on properly to the nipple. Three days after the birth of the baby, you can begin to use a manual, electric breast pump or a dual electric breast pump for five extra minutes following each nursing session with your baby. This will increase the amount of milk that your body produces, and it will stimulate the letdown process. Supplementation with formula or banked, natural breastmilk may be used if you are not producing enough milk.…

A C-section was originally intended to be used when it is impossible or dangerous to deliver a baby vaginally. This technique may be used when a fetus is in fetal distress or can simply not fit through the mother’s pelvis. The birth complications could be very dangerous to the fetus and the C- section helped deliver the baby safely. The medical indications of a C-Section being needed are overshadowed by a large increase in Cesarean’s because of patient choice and convenience.…
