In her Fuse interview, Gaga reveals the truth about her harsh childhood. She recalls her haunting experiences of being bullied throughout her whole academic career (Gaga). Gaga was always in the ‘out crowd’ and never fit in which made her an easy target to other kids. Her gym locker was written on with awful words that mocked her from everything from her religion to sexual orientation (Gaga). She recollects that she felt glory in her childhood because she could freely express her true self, but bullies easily took that experience away from her (Gaga).
By the same token, Gaga’s view of herself had a huge impact on the creation of this song. She believed that she was blessed to be given a voice in society and that she needed to be, “a warrior for pop music” (Gaga). The creation of this song was meant to spread a message of hope to her fans, and Gaga hoped that message would spread the ideas of acceptance, love, and equality. Having that sense of pride and empowerment was important to Gaga and she wants her fans to have that same sense of pride as they grow
