Mass-producing our baby food is not by any means natural. Commercial baby food has a shelf life of nearly a year, while homemade baby foods last about three weeks in the freezer. This shows that commercial baby foods are loaded with preservatives and additives. How safe are they really for your baby?
Additives: Nearly all commercial baby foods contain additives such as ascorbic acid or citric acid that are not necessary and are not ordinarily part of the baby’s diet. While water may be added for texture and consistency, it shouldn’t be the first ingredient, especially in foods for older infants. Sweets: Many desserts and some breakfast foods and snack items are very high in sugar and shouldn’t be consumed by young children.
