After a period of attempted isolationism, America began to engaged the world more aggressively in light of threats from Japan and Germany between 1937 and 1941; inspiring this change in foreign policy were many factors, primarily the economics, national security considerations, and the desire to preserve democratic values. Economically, America was looking to make money off of the war; however, as America became more involved, the war effort would cost the country. Deals such as “Cash and Carry” and “Destroyers for Bases” allowed America to profit off of the war until it decided to assume the role of the “arsenal of democracy” and pledged to spend money on those who were defending their freedoms (Doc. F). Accompanying this policy of supporting democracies, other economic changes came too, in the form of trade restrictions. America cut its economic engagements with Japan, stopping its sales of oil to the imperialistic nation.…

I have had a lifelong passion for environmental issues that arose from a childhood spent amongst mountains, canyons, islands, and rivers. The Anacostia River near my home is dubbed “The Forgotten River,” for it has been transformed by neglect. It was integral to my childhood—my family canoed on the river, my crew team practiced on it, and my Eagle Scout project involved rehabilitating one of its wetlands. The river showed me that environmental issues are complex, involving science, social justice, politics, economics, and history. From a young age, I was stunned by my city’s apathy and saw a change that needed to occur.…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

The top three colleges I chose are Hinds Community College, Mississippi State University, and Alcorn State University . Hinds is my first choice because I visited Hinds’ Nursing Allied Health Center on one of my various CDC field trips and I was amazed. I was shown how to be prepared for CPR, how to read the blood pressure machine, and just learn about all the programs they have to offer. I actually did plenty of .research on nursing and I think Hinds is just the place for me .…
