Babe Didrikson Zaharias

There are many famous athletes people think of for sports like basketball, baseball, and golf people think of Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, and Jack Nicklaus. When people think of famous women athletes like in tennis they think of Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova or Billie jean king. Another famous athlete from the past is golf player Babe Didrikson Zaharias who helped other women who wanted to become a golf player be able to compete with women with the same talent. If it was not for Didrikson and other women who helped find the LPGA, women may have not been able to play golf.
Mildred Ella “babe” Didrikson Zaharias was born in June 26, 1911. She is known as babe Didrikson Zaharias. She grew up in Texas with parents and six siblings. Her parents are originally from Norway. Babe Didrikson Zaharias got the nickname “babe” after Babe Ruth because she hit five homeruns in a baseball game as a child. Even though Didrikson was known for her athletic gift, she was also good seamstress and won a sewing competition in 1931 at the state fair of Texas. She dropped out of school and moved to Dallas to play basketball. She was a great athlete but she had many other talents including singing where she recorded a couple of songs. She only had the job so she could play basketball on an amateur team. She led the team to the championship game in the Amateur Athletic Union, also known as AUU. She was known for her track and field instead of basketball. In the 1932 AAU championship, she was in 8 of the 10 events. She won five of the events. In four of the events, she set world records in javelin throw, 80-meter hurdles, high jump, and baseball throw. She ended winning the championship even though she was the only member on the
