In a technologically advancing world, the development of mobile phones has taken the world by leaps and bounds. The evolution of the mobile phone is one of the fastest technological advancements humankind has ever seen. According to Mudrakola, Sukesh, (2016), the growing necessity and expectations of users aided the evolution of smartphone from a basic mobile. However, as a result, the technological experience has grown in the form of a pocketable smartphone. The platforms of Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android and Microsoft Windows accounts have given the owner the capabilities of combining work and personal interests with security restrictions. According to Optimus Learning (2013), BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device is a business policy where employees bring in personally owned mobile devices such as smartphones and tables and allow them to access privileged business data such as databases and email on their own phone. In this case study, I will present what the implementation of providing a BYOD system within your business activities as an advantage or disadvantages viewpoint. This case study will also show how utilizing the BYOD can allow better employment engagement thus leading to productivity. Technological advancement benefits for a company using BYOD is cost, flexibility, and technology familiarity. However, there are disadvantages when implementing BYOD into your corporation. The disadvantages are costs for the employee, administrative expense, device disparities, and security. The disadvantages of BYOD are costs for the employee, device disparities and security. The cost of the BYOD is placed on the employee because not every employee has or want the device the company is utilizing. There are also, disadvantages for the administrative expense reports because the payroll stipends have tax consequences for the employer and employee. Utilizing your phone, one must factor that is a disadvantage is the increased usage, and constant use of the device could lead to costly repairs and depreciation due to accidents. Therefore, an employee may become dissatisfied with the company if you are told you must have the device the company is using. If I use my company mobile devices, they are not compatible with the technological advances the employees utilize, so we must carry two mobile devices. However, this poses a disadvantage to the employee because the company uses whatever they can get by with a cheap mobile device without the perk most employees value
