A competent nurse realizes that continuing education will be an essential part of my practice, in order to “acquire new knowledge and skills to be more effective in their changing roles” (Blais & Hayes, 2016, p. 7) Obtaining my BSN is part of my long-term strategy as well. After I graduate with my BSN, I intend to obtain a Master’s Degree so that I may become an Oncology Nurse Practitioner. I look forward to the challenge of obtaining my BSN degree, because it will increase my research, leadership, and critical thinking skills. I am also looking forward to the prospect of nursing instruction both at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, because I recognize that this will allow me a significant amount of time gaining a deeper understanding of how to deliver evidence-based care, which will make me a better health care practitioner. By being exposed to the latest research, I may even discover interventions that have been found to be effective that could be applied in my current environment as well as my own future practice in Oncology. Due to my past exposure in nursing school being so limited – and the changes that have taken place in medicine like the greatly expanded roles of Nurse Practitioners – there is a significant new body of knowledge that I am excited to be exposed to. Because technology and the field of the Nurse Practitioner are new and developing, there will continue to be a significant amount of information to learn as these roles evolve with
