This assignment’s purpose is to create an evaluation about the intended audience by thoroughly analyzing the purpose, structure and diction of the Use and Care Manual for the BLACK+DECKER Allure Iron. To give a brief overview, the manual gives safety instructions as well as use and care instructions in order to provide the reader with basic information on the product. The manual’s format is mapped to allow the knowledge to be readily available for the reader and makes it easier to find, and understand, which can give insight about the purposed reader.
To start, the structure of each component was explored when reading the manual. First, the manual describes the safety instructions. These safety instructions are included in order to provide the reader and user with essential

The instructions were listed in bullet form to provide the most essential information with the least amount of words making it easier for the reader and user to process. This structure helps the reader, and user better understand the product and precautions it takes to use it. Next, the manual introduces basic instructions on the use of the iron. This component informs the reader of the start-up procedures and use of the iron. The instructions are general and written with very common language. The structures of these instructions were much like those of the safety instructions, but the user instructions contained graphics and headings. The graphics displayed each procedure and pointed out the parts of the iron. The sentences in both sections were mostly simple and short. The headings were in a larger font, and bolded, for easy reader access. Lastly, the manual includes a cleaning and care component that describes the step-by-step process to perform the task and FAQ section to clarify any confusion.
