BHS Student Mentorship Team

I am excited that you have accepted the invitation to become a member of the BHS Student Mentorship Team. I look forward to working with you this school year. Our first mentor activity is the BHS Summer Bridge Program, which will be held August 10-13 from 8:30-12:30. The Summer Bridge Program is a four day introduction to high school for rising freshmen. The incoming freshmen will take part in math, English, enrichment and BHS orientation sessions. Student mentors will participate by acting as counselors, as well as lead a session.

Any mentor that will volunteer during Summer Bridge must attend a one hour training session before Summer Bridge starts. The training session will prepare you for the session you will lead (no worries).

In addition, even if they complain, they are excluded from the option of taking a harder class because of the English level they can handle. The argument is unfair for those who excel in mathematical and scientific ability but lack of English proficiency.…

The relationship with a mentee is somewhat different than a relationship between friends. There is a sort of bond that occurs from helping the student but the student holds you to higher standards than a friend would. I am excited about mentoring next semester because I want to hone my mentoring skills even further be able to help my mentees in a more effective way.…
