For the past three months, I've had the opportunity to meet many of your students in the Behavioral Health Sciences program. Since my primary focus has been on counseling BHS students and organizing the BHS program/courses. I have neglected the importance of our BHS adjunct faculty staff. As BHS adjunct faculty, you are in the drivers seat of the BHS program helping students learn, grow, and improving the retention and completion rate of BHS students at Glendale Community College. All of us at the GCC Counseling Department appreciates the time and effort you have invested in the BHS program. As with BHS students, I would like to encourage each of you to drop by the Counseling Department and just introduce yourself (Monday 4-6pm, Wednesday 4-7pm, Friday 10am-4:30pm). I enjoy talking with adjunct faculty and hearing your personal story, and opinions on how to improve the Behavioral Health Sciences program at Glendale Community College. …show more content…
I am open to meeting and talking about these and other concerns or answering any of your questions. In my current efforts, I am working on improving the quality of education and creating transparency with students. The Counseling Department now has a new, relocated, Behavioral Health Sciences Forum under the Maricopa Community College domain. This is only one of the many NEW developments that will help build unity, connection, and transparency. I sent each of you an invite… If you plan to continue teaching in the BHS program, please take the time to accept the invite. If you can't find the invite, let me know and I will resend the invite. As soon as you accept, I will change your status to BHS Instructor in order to view and respond to student’s

When I was sixteen years old I was pushed to drop out of high school by my addict parents to raise my younger sister. When I first started attending Rio Salado I had a crippling fear that I would fail and ultimately need to drop out once again. However, when I received the email about the Rio Salado Honors Program I knew that I was destined for greater achievements. Rio Salado has greatly improved my scholarly self-esteem and has given me the knowledge to succeed.…

CPD 150 (Strategies for College Success) is a counseling course that has been a requirement for first year students at numerous Maricopa Community Colleges. The purpose of this course is to focus on improving student success through personal growth and college experiences. Not only that but developing study skills and encouraging career and educational planning are also seen throughout the course (“Counseling Courses”). However, the majority of the material covered in this class is common sense or there are resources on campus that can help out with various college issues. Also, taking this “college success” class is a waste of time and money.…

I believe I did not fully apply all of my learning objectives while at the Wellness Center. One of my objectives was to increase the efficiency of the center by applying the knowledge I was going to be learning. Despite that I learned many theories and concepts about how organizations work, I was not able to make ample applications due to the lack of opportunities. One primary anticipation I had of the Wellness Center was to be given new job duties and responsibilities beyond what is given to ordinary student assistants. I believed that my experience and knowledge of three years would have given me an advantage for consideration.…

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…
