BEMP: Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Report

Decent Essays
The phenology of the Bosque indicates an increase or decrease in global warming because it shows exactly when changes in the Bosque start and end. The ground water shows this because by looking at all months for years it can be seen when the water levels were high each year and find a trend. By just looking at the same month for many years it will show what has happened. If global warming were to get worse the water levels would have gone lower (the number from the surface to the water would be bigger). This trend could be tracked long term by measuring the ground water from years. This has been done by a program called BEMP: Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program. This program measured the ground water of the Rio Grande for many years. One site was measured from 2012-2018. The water trends are shown for March in the graph above. This shows how global warming has affected the Bosque because you can see that for most of the years the water levels have gotten lower (higher numbers on the graph). This means that Global warming has gotten worse because it shows that there has been less water in the ground because as the world gets warmer water evaporates faster, this would cause there to be less water. It can be assumed …show more content…
What they can do is make sure that it is not influenced by any outside or human actions. The role that they should play is to protect the ecosystem of and around the Rio Grande. They should make sure that programs that monitor the Bosque and other ecosystems stay so that trends and predictions can be made. This can help the ecosystem be much healthier. It can make sure that actions be taken when a problem is realized. This is much easier to see when there is an organization that is meant for monitoring these ecosystems is there all the time measuring the different parts of every ecosystem. The federal governments' role is to monitor and protect ecosystems and keep the ecosystems

The greatest human impact on the water quality of Barnegat Bay is irrigation. Irrigation occurs when water is added to land or crops in order to aid in growth. In the northern parts of the bay, where “peak nitrogen levels have been recorded”, many homeowners continually use lawn fertilizers which carry nutrients in the runoff produced (Seitzinger 6). In addition to being a problem in the northern Barnegat Bay area, in the past few years, “the pollution problem is now being magnified by increased development in southern Ocean County, creating the same ecological hazard in the lower part of the bay” (Moore 1). This contributes to nutrient loading, which is when an ecosystem has a high amount of nutrients entering it in a short amount of time.…

In the online webpage “Facts: Effects”, Holly Shaftel confirms “Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves” by elaborating the effects of excessive release of greenhouse gases, resulting from various human activities, towards the environment, thus affecting the current ecosystem(Facts:Effects). She supports this claim by first stating that, according to various data collected on greenhouse gas concentration by the intergovernmental panel on climate change(IPCC), “Summer temperatures are projected to continue rising, and a reduction of soil moisture…” and thus result in severe droughts(Facts:Effects).…

In addition to Global Warming’s impact on water, it also impacts the environment, harming ice and bodies of water, plants, and animals. Firstly, Global Warming leads to a shrinkage of glaciers and causes ice on rivers and lakes to break earlier. This decrease in ice also accelerates the rising of sea levels (NASA, The Consequences of Climate Change). Additionally, Global Warming impacts plants, as they are no longer able to survive in certain climates and locations, and trees are flowering earlier. Finally, as a result of Global Warming, animals can no longer live in certain places because places may no longer fulfill their needs (NASA, The Consequences of Climate Change).…

The overall temperature of the earth is increasing significantly over the last few years . The global surface temperature is expected to increase by 1.1º C to 6.4ºC over the 21st century. Due to the high average altitude, the temperature changes and raising sea level should have less impact on Mexico than in other countries. However, low altitude areas of Mexico will be significantly affected.…

The Future of Species Pink Horned Toad One hundred years later from now, the global warming still affects living creatures in the Earth and no species can avoid the consequence made by this gradual temperature rise. So do the pink horned toads which live in Northern South America. With rising temperature, toads, living in the tropical jungle, might be less adaptive to the change since they used to stay in a small or no temperature deviation environment. However, the global warming not only rises the temperature but also increases the sea level. As amphibians, toads can stay in water and land as they want.…

THE GREENHOUSE GASES TRAP HEAT AND INCREASE THE CLIMATE CHANGE Exposition The climate of this planet is constantly changing and evolving. The present average annual temperature is approximately as low as 59 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit. The other types of resources suggest that today’s 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit is much warmer than the past temperature periods.…

Hawaii would be a rather uncomfortable place to live by the end of this century. The number of tropical storms striking the archipelago, which is the strip of water containing the islands that make up Hawaii, is expected to rise in the Pacific. When climate change increases significantly, researchers from Japan, China and Hawaii have calculated an increase in the number of cyclones reaching the shores. On average an extra one or two cyclones per year are projected to affect Hawaii, as opposed to previous years when surface temperature as a whole was a few degrees cooler. “Significant and robust changes in large-scale environmental conditions strengthen in situ (the original place) tropical cyclone activity in the subtropical central Pacific.…

California is currently suffering in a major drought as we speak. Due to the climate changes, constant high temperatures and not having enough rain is causing the country to be more aware of how they can save water by limiting the usage of their water supply. This problems leads to water restrictions effecting many businesses, residents, and farms. In this article, author Justin Gillis, wrote "Warming is found to intensify California drought", published in 2015 by the International New York Times, and he discusses how global warming is actually occurring by the actions of human emissions and the drought has escalated up to 15 to 20 percent. Gillis talks about the cause of California 's drought by constructing his credibility giving insights on providing reliable…

    B) Background and Audience Relevance: Changes in our climate has created unexpected abnormalities in our weather, ranging from droughts, intense rain, floods, and heat waves randomly throughout the world. Additionally, our environment is influenced by the changes in weather as observed in the melting of the polar ice caps, oceans becoming more acidic, and sea levels rising. Other evidence may also lie amongst the changes in functional ecosystems and spectating the behavior of different species, all in which contribute to the idea of Climate Change.…

Glaciers melting, water rising, the earth getting hotter: what do we usually attribute this to? Global warming, also known as global climate change. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, global warming is “the recent increase in the world 's temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases (such as carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere.” Interestingly enough, most of the scientific community is in turmoil about if global warming is really happening, making it difficult for the population to know what to think.…

Both of these pieces of information show a slight temperature increase, which may not sound significant, but if the temperature continues rising at the rate that it currently is, then a temperature increase will have consequences such as a rise in sea level, change in rainfall patterns and ecosystems and more dangerous and frequent extreme weather Another aspect proving climate change’s existence is the increase in ocean acidification. Increased carbon dioxide in the air is causing rapid ocean acidification to occur. Ocean acidification is when carbon dioxide is absorbed by seawater and reduces the seawater’s pH level and since the industrial revolution, the acidity of surface ocean waters has increased by 30%. Ocean acidification is dangerous because in more acidic waters, calcium carbonate is more difficult to absorb.…

The Global Impact of Climate Change Psalm 95:5 states, “The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.” (English Standard Version Bible, Psalm. 95.5). In this quote, the author David exhibits the importance of the earth, one that God himself has made, both land and sea. Such a gift should be treasured and nurtured, but most people do not know how the earth is being impacted by climate change, or most importantly how we can prevent its effects from escalating any further. Climate change is negatively impacting the world; economically, agriculturally, and geographically, and ways to prevent it include; establishing programs, enforcing organizations nationwide, and on a smaller scale, educating other on the concept, and personally…
