B Rk Observation

I signed up for a program called B.A.R.K through the Celina Intermediate elementary school. This is a program where I go in for thirty minutes a day and help a select student with reading exercises. I was pared up with a boy in second grade. On the first day he was very quiet. At the beginning of our session he showed me a few “magic tricks” with his fingers and told me he plays football. When we got down to business of reading I noticed he has other helpers besides me helping him every day, so by time I got there he already started the program. When I was with him we did a practice read, which is when we both read a passage only a page long tighter. Afterward, he sums up what that tiny passage was about and he answers some questions. After

The student I observed in the infant and toddler room was a young girl named Briel. Briel had just turned two years old. Before we started writing, I told Triven we would be writing for ten minutes and that he could write a narrative or true story on any of the topics that we listed the day before. It took him ten minutes to write two sentences, so I gave him some more time. We spent a total of fourteen minutes writing, I had to prompt him to keep writing about 3-4 times. Triven is in 3rd grade and he exhibited very little enthusiasm when reading his piece back to me. He mumbled and didn’t seem very confident with what was written.…

As a young child at school, we had the Accelerated Reading Program. It was a program that encouraged children to read various books, and then after to take a quiz based on the books. This program really helped me, because the program pushed me to read more. Since I am bilingual, learning two languages as a child was a bit challenging for me, and learning how to read was even harder. I would sometimes mix up letters, vowels, and sometimes talk in Russian when I was supposed to talk in English.…

As I get off the bus from the long day of school, I head on over to the building ahead of me to now start with the next task in my day, tutoring. The school year had just begun a short while ago and I had to juggle the responsibilities of a new job and school work for the first time. Walking into the school, I saw the familiar faces of kids I worked with before when I previously volunteered on my free time. Once I settled into a classroom to start, students came in with their books and started to work away at their homework. All but one of the faces seemed familiar, so I checked to see who the new student was.…
