W.E.B Du Bois

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born on February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He is the son of Alfred and Mary Du Bois. W.E.B Du Bois was a very important African American. Du Bois has had many accomplishments in his life. He is known for many things, that being a social scientist, political activist, author, and even an educator. He was a very inspirational leader.
During his youth he did some newspaper reporting. In 1884 he graduated as valedictorian from high school. After high school, Du Bois moved to Nashville Tennessee to attend Fisk University. It was at Fisk University where he first encountered the Jim Crow laws. He then began observing the deep complications of American racism. In 1888, Du Bois obtained his bachelor of arts from Fisk. After getting his degree, he spent a few summers teaching at African American school. He entered Harvard University as a junior, he paid his tuition with the money from his summer jobs, scholarships, and even loans from a few friends. After he finished school and earned his master 's degree, he was picked to participate in a study-abroad program at the University of Berlin. When he was a scholar in Germany, he studied alongside of the most prominent social scientists of his day (W.E.BDu Bois Biography, 2015). In 1895, Du Bois was the first African American to earn a PhD from Harvard.
After he graduated, he went on to teach sociology at Atlanta University between 1898 and 1910. Du Bois published…
