APU Evaluation Essay

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Azusa Pacific University (APU)’s Religious and Spiritual programs on current student’s academic success, engagement, faith and spiritual development. We wanted to further study how APU as a religious affiliated institution has had an effect on current student’s spiritual growth. We specifically wanted to see how experiences vary depending on the student’s class level, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Furthermore, we are interested in looking at how a student’s religious affiliation, international status, military-veteran, and sexual orientation affects their faith development and experiences with the various religious and spiritual programs. Also, we wanted to focus on how various populations feel about the services that are provided by Campus Religious and Spiritual programs at APU.
We aspired to evaluate whether APU is fulfilling their mission, and determine if APU’s Religious and Spiritual programs have created environments that are welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and equitable to all students.

The survey included various demographic questions, close-ended, open-ended questions, and Likert scale items. Students who completed the survey were entered to participate in a raffle to win a $20 Amazon gift card.
There were three variables that we sought to measure through this evaluation: student’s spiritual development, academic success, and engagement. This assignment helped me understand and achieve the educational goals of the university by helping me realize the ignorance that existed towards anyone who was different. Many use texts to degrade others beliefs and to better their beliefs. This is wrong and in reading these articles I now have a greater knowledge of this and will always try to see both sides of a situation equally. This assignment was important for a better understanding of American religious diversity because it demonstrated the biased that exists and how diversity can lead to issues regarding religion.…

I believe that the most pressing spiritual and religious need for students at the University of Puget Sound is the ability to understand each other. Many students at our university do not know much about other religions, and many do not even care. In my personal experience as a student, I have discovered that many students who do not identify with a religion look condescendingly upon students who do. Many students believe that organized religion is an oppressing institution with irrational, blind followers. They do not respect those who believe in a G-d, and even question these students' intelligence.…

Religious Instruction was not compulsory until the 1944 Education Act, however, was still incorporated throughout the curriculum. When put in place the Act ensured that religious education and collective worship were to take place in all schools particularly if the school was an aided school as the governors were dismissive of any teacher who didn’t ‘deliver religious instruction, efficiently and sustainably’. (Cooper, 2012) Religious Instruction (RI) soon became Religious Education (RE) but did not officially become RE until the 1988 Education Act which then stated that within the curriculum, RE had to broadly reflect the Christian tradition whilst taking account of other principal religions. This act also enabled parents to withdraw their children from the subject and even gave teachers an opportunity to withdraw from teaching the subject itself(UK Parliament, 2015)so if it was so reinforced back then why is it not now?…

My previous year of schooling was spent at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was a freshman who was taking her first few steps towards independence. And the reason I chose Calvin was because it was a small, Christian school with a Japanese program. During orientation at Calvin I had felt that I had definitely made the right choice on which college to attend because everything during that time seemed to be focused on God. Yet, as time went on, I realized that while the college campus’ population as awhole was somewhat centered around God, it was not as strongly focused on God.…
