Aztec's God: A Short Story

In a distant land, there was a famous city where the Aztec’s god had told them to look for. Tenochtitlan, surrounded by "floating gardens" and high mountains, was beautiful and very well-organized.
One day, an Aztec merchant went up to the Great Temple to ask the priest to interpret his dream. As he arrived, his eyes immediately flashed on the majestic temple. It was standing about ninety feet high, two stepped pyramids rising side by side on a huge platform of this ginormous structure.
Stepping into the building, the priest was watching the night sky for signs that might tell the future events of his people. Afraid of disrupting the priest, the merchant gently asked, “My lord, may I ask for interpretation from the gods of my dream?” The priest turned and looked at the merchant with a pity face. “So what have you got over here? You know that I have the most powerful and important status in the nation. Without my wisdom, no one will be able to carry out the will of the gods.” The merchant answered with fear, “I have brought

I am an Aztec witch, and my black practices were assigned by the gods. Not I have received the will from the gods that I must help you, that’s why you are here right now.”
The farmer told the witch about the priest and how evil he was. The witch nodded as she listened, “Very easy. I have designed special magic powder that can make the people believe you and the priest will tell the truth. But there aren’t such things as free help.” The farmer replied with excitement, “I am a farmer, so I cannot offer you with precious gifts, but the most valuable things to me are my crops. If you don’t mind, you may have half of crops of this year.”
The witch closed her eyes and blinked, then looked at the farmer with a delightful face, “Deal. If you keep your promise, then I will keep mine as well. Here’s the magic powder, sprinkle it in the air and when people breathe the air in, they would soon realize the truth and turn against the

The Aztecs: A Very Short Introduction by David Carrasco is a succinct but comprehensive history of the, in many ways infamous, ancient Latin American civilization known as the Aztecs. His book goes through an overview of the foundation and creation of the Aztec culture and way of life, their expansion, their taboo rituals of sacrifice and reputation as a violent and warlike group, and eventually the fall of the civilization as a whole. The book as a whole speaks volumes in its simplicity; it gives readers an excellent sense of what this strange and once very powerful culture once was in, as the title suggests, a very short amount of pages. The book begins with the description of the massive and intimidating wonder that was the city of Tenochtitlan.…

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines hysteria as a “behavior exhibiting overwhelming or unmanageable fear or emotional excess,” such as that of the citizens of Salem during the Witch Trials in 1692. As one of the first groups to settle here, Puritans feared the unknown like the forest, and banded together for protection. With little room for individuality, grudges and other personal disputes built up with no outlet. Fueled by destructive lies and wrongful accusations of others, hysteria evolves into a dangerous problem in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. It is not difficult to see how people like Abigail, in a community with such strict religious laws, find it easier to avoid the truth rather than accept the blame.…

The Tale of the Eloquent Peasant deeply treads on the concept of Ma’at – the Egyptian concept of truth, order, and justice personified by the goddess Ma’at. The concept of Ma’at is critical to Egyptian society for two primary reasons – it further serves to strengthen the rule of the king and provides guidance for everyday Egyptians and, to a lesser extent, the pharaohs, on how to behave properly to achieve order and cosmic harmony. Therefore, the story of the peasant serves a twofold purpose – as a moral tale which advocates for and ultimately achieves societal harmony and as a religious appeal to the pharaoh’s authority. The Story of Sinuhe concerns religion to a significantly higher degree but is distinct in its subtlety. While offering similar praise to the king for his ultimate mercy, the more critical aspect of the story involves that of divine providence and its connection to the Egyptian pharaoh.…
