The main food that the Aztecs ate was the tlaxcalli also known as the tortilla. The tlaxcalli was a thin cornmeal pancake and it was used to scoop up foods while they ate and they could also wrap their foods in the tlaxcalli to make tacos. The meats that they mostly hunted for were rabbits, deer, geese, and ducks. Dogs and turkeys were the only animals that they raised for meat. The Aztecs were the first people for discovering chocolate. They made chocolate from a fruit of the cacao tree and it was used as a flavoring and also used as an ingredient in different beverages and kinds of confectionery. Education

They mostly used feathers as a decoration for their clothing. (Why)The lower class Aztecs did not wear cotton clothes, their clothing was simple. Their simple clothes was made from fibers of the maguey leaves and was then spun into thread and later on was woven. (Why not) These woven pieces would later on be sewn or tied together. This material was also soft like cotton but it wasn’t cotton. It was very rare to see lower class Aztecs wear cotton clothing and no lower class person could wear feathers because their clothing was not decorated like the upper class people. The male slaves just wore a simple loincloth which some were tied at the shoulder and some were tied at the waist. The military wore designed and colored clothing that was very unique from others and it was to show to which group of warriors they belonged to. The most popular wind instruments that they used were conch shell trumpets,ocarinas and clay flutes. The most common percussion instruments that they used were various types of drums, shakers, rattles, rasps, etc. The most important Aztec musical instrument were the drums. One of the most important and popular drums was called the “huehuetl”. The huehuetl was a large vertical hand drum which was covered with a stretched animal hide cover. This musical instrument produced two different tones. It produced a lower tone at the center of the drum head, and it produced a higher tone at the outer rim of the drum. Another popular horizontal drum that was used by the Aztecs was the “teponaztli”. This musical instrument was made of wood and was played with mallets. Both of these drums were very important during festivals and they were also played with Aztec songs. The mallets were streaked on both left and right tongues, which caused 2 different tones to be produced.Both the huehuetl and the teponaztli were played together traditionally because they served as a very important role in accompanying Aztec songs.Because these musical instruments were considered sacred objects to the Aztecs, they would have these instruments stored both the palace and temple sanctuaries.
