They only went to school for ten years. “...sent to the Home of the Students, where there are ten wards, for our ten years of learning” (20). Ten years of learning basic techniques of how to do certain things is not enough to have any sort of intelligence. “It was that the learning was too easy” (21). There needs to be more advanced learning for a longer period of time. The council assigns people to careers and make the people do that for the rest of their life. The council knew Equality had something special in him, so they gave him a career that wouldn’t use any knowledge and wouldn’t stir up any curiosity: A Street Sweeper. They need to have knowledge about science or at least know the basic meaning to even know what science is. This society are seeing science happen every single day without even knowing it is science. Equality stepped out of the box and saw what it really was and was put down, having him not worked with anybody. Technology and science will not have any positive progress without individuality and curiosity. Science revolves around curiosity. It is not fair to anyone in the society that they are keeping such a major key to everything away from them. Science relates to everything. One cannot run a working society without it. Equality broke the rules to pursue what he felt was right, if the rules didn’t stop him they won’t stop anybody
